I never hunted out of home made stands, but I did spend a lot of time in a Baker Mighty Mite.

Killed my first deer from one of those stands when I was 13 years old. Also hunted another like it that had rope around 3 trees for safety I guess. No idea what a safety harness was back then!

Many times. Those were high tech in their times.
Had one with a metal folding chair up there one time, thought that was luxury.

I remember being aroung 14 years old and was with dad building a DIY ladder stand. We cut 2 long straight dogwood trees and made the ladder, then put oak boards on top for the platform. Made a seat from boards as well. Uncomforatble as heck. I loved those days.

Those are the types of stands I look for when scouting. As soon as I see one I start looking for the trail.

My first deer was killed from one. I was in it with my dad. I hit the trigger on the 16g. before even looking through the scope. I wasn't expecting the recoil and it knocked me backwards off the platform. I remember seeing my dads hand come flying at me. He grabbed the front of my coveralls and threw me on the platform floor. He saved me from falling that day. And somehow I grazed the does stomach with the shot. She ran to the bottom of the hill and when she jumped the creek bed her intestines came out and caught the brush. It was a grousome sight but I had my first deer.

I hunted out of one when I was 14 or so, had a length of rope tied to the tree and then tied to my waist, man were we stupid! When I was just a wee lad, I begged dad for a tree house and these pictures are pretty close to what he built, he did have sense enough to put guard rails up though. I was maybe 10 or 11 when I was climbing up and checking each step as I went up because it had been a while since I had been in there, about the 3rd step up came off in my hands and I went falling backward. I was very lucky I wasn't hurt. never hunted out of a Baker but have heard the stories. Dad had one, we have come a long way to the level of awareness that we have today,

Yep there was one about 25 yards from where I put my first ladder stand until that tree fell.

Wow. That’s way up there for one of those type of stands. Especially if the wind is blowing!!!
