I was traveling down 38 this morning on my way to work. In one of the fields that I pass there was a dead deer laying out in the field, most likely which had been struck on 38. About 30 yards away was a very large bird with a white head. I have seen Eagles while in Evansville and in Michigan, but never central Indiana. Anyone else seen one around?

I see them during the winter up along Mississinewa River and Wabash Rivers in Miami/Wabash counties but I have never seen one this early.Consider it a good omen and buy a lottery ticket tonight.

There's one in Noblesville along White River...... A nesting pole has been installed at Province Pond WCA which is in Western Henry Co., so IDNR must know there is an eagle in that area.

Way to the west of you, they are over here in Putnam, and I've seen one a couple of times in Montgomery County. Dad and I had one take off from a tree when we were on Big Walnut a few years back, and I've seen them around Lake Holiday (southwest of Crawfordsville) at least twice...

There's at least one nesting pair on the Wabash River west of Lafayette. My Boy Scout Venturing Crew saw several late this summer on Big Pine Creek between Pine Village and Attica while canoeing. Could very easily be the same pair. I occasionally will see one flying around west of Purdue campus when I am working in our tree nursery.

There is a nest right on a country road in Putnam Co. This pair has nested in it for several years.

I've seen them from top to bottom east and west in Indiana. If you spend any time around water (creeks count too) and are observant you will see a bald eagle. Saw a juvi bald eagle along the white in Madison County 3-4 yrs ago. Seen em in Indy, HNF around Monroe, Patoka, Putnam County, Parke, Vermillion and Laporte Co. along with several other areas I have forgotten.
It is a great feeling to see em especially in your home area!!!

Had three of them flying over my place Sat while I was in the midst of explaining "Annie" to the Scouts on our claybird range. We all got some very good looks at them.

I duck hunted Province Pond a few weeks ago and saw a Bald Eagle. I just kept telling myself "It couldn't be" but I guess it really was.

Kyle..... I talked to Cary Schuyler (Atterbury Prop Mgr) via e-mail the other day and I asked him about that the pole @ Province. That nesting pole on the South end of the levy isn't for an eagle........it's for ospreys. I thought that was interesting.

Bill, that could be any one of nearly 100 roads in this county... Care to narrow it down for me?

Dan
Go west of 231 on 36. There is a welding shop on the left a few miles past this intersection. Past the welding shop is a feed mill and a red brick church. Turn left between the mill and church. I think this is 600W. Stay on this road about 5 or 6 miles, you are going south. Go past the Clinton falls church and cemetery. This road will turn to gravel then takes a hard left. The nest is on your right. There is a metal no trespass sign at the spot. You will have no problem seeing the nest from the road. If you go around the next turn and see a BIG house on the right way off the road on the hill you went one turn too far. This road takes you to Parker Stone.

Cool. Thanks. I've been in that area a few times, but it's been a while. Somewhere down in that area is some property that the father of a buddy of mine (and bggoosekiller) owns. I probably couldn't take you to it to save my life right now. BTW, give me a ring sometime when you are out this way again. I live ~2 miles north of 36 and 1/2 mile off of 231....
