When I have done it I used a tree I could get a climbing stand on so I could go up behind it and attach it to the tree so I didn't have to climb the ladder without it being attached.

I typically use an extension ladder. Much safer.

Attaching it to the tree before climbing is important. I learned that the hard way.

I have used a climbing stand every single time I've put up a ladder stand. I will admit that the method restricts me to straight trees only. I still need another person to help me "walk" the ladder stand up and hold it steady until I can get my climber up to the platform and secure it.

I've got a realtree stand with a claw system. I think I need to tighten the claw bolts as I walked it up a tree myself pulled the strap and the dang claws went in reverse š. I had to walk it back down to reset it and After that I left it lay. I was worn out. It's still out there though. I had the perfect light extension ladder I got for free but my sis in law took off with it. Returned a much heavier one š. Awaiting the pics to see if it will help me, due to being a hunting loner.

This is what I took back. Rope comealong tp(incase I cut my finger) haha 2 18ish inch pieces of the u Chanel fence post a hatchet for pounding(note to self. Take bigger pounder) and ratchet straps better picture of fence post. (Note to self. Make one end pointy) Place stand guestamated distance from stand and pound in fence pieces to hold ladder from slideing Attach comealong to tree with ratchet strap Tie rope to top aera of stand then run down and around hook on comealong then back up to top of stand .pull tight then tie off. This is just a judgement call on where you put it. Make sure to tie at rung and side rail so rope can not move or slide in any direction I placed stand on top of atv to help in the upward motion. Then start retracting cable with comealong I had to improvise. I needed points on posts and bigger pounder. The posts wanted to slide rearward so I put sticks from tree to posts to hold in place This picture is hard to under stand but make sure the railing is in the correct posision or you have to let it down and adjust because railing will be underthe stand and not able to be placed in the proper posision. Had a small tree with limbs in the road so used a ratchet strap to hold it over so as not to have to cut it After retrieving all of cable in to come along it is easy to push stand into tree. Then re tie rope at comalong hook so you can ratchet rope tight to hold stand in place. I had stand legs to far out so I used posts as leverage to lift and slide them toward tree. I also had to put a little slack in comealong to allow the stand ro rais up and slide back the stand is up. Need to attach leg/ladderbraces to tree and then ease up and put ratchet on top seat for extra safety measure so stand can not move. Hope I explained every thing so if you want to try this you can accomplish putting your own stand up. I think it could be used if you have a couple guys to add some safety to putting one up. The rope and comealong stops it from falling if some one slips.

Take 2 ratchet straps. Attach the hook part to the part of the ladder stand that contacts the tree. Once you get the stand up against the tree, take those 2 straps, cross them behind the tree, attach them to the lower rung of the ladder part and tighten then down. That keeps the top part anchored to the tree while you climb up and put another strap around the tree up there and tighten that one down. You can remove those 2 now or leave them there.

I drill a 2x6 to fit the stand legs. It helps stabilize the legs and keeps them from sinking too deep. The more strong backs and weak minds the better. The ladder works best to anchor it to the tree but even that can be sketchy.

I think I've seen this before? Lol I learned it from you! I probably seen it on the back of a milk carton or something. Lol. It does work well. A lot less sketchy than the old days.

I started doing this about 10 years ago when the instructions that came with my stand recommended this method. I never thought it would work but to my surprise it worked very well. I've been using this method ever since. It's the safest method I've found for putting up a ladder stand. I highly recommend it to anybody.

I put up a double ladder tree stand by myself every year. I attach the ropes the the corners of the seat & put the bottom rung against the bottom of the tree & walk the ladder up. When I get it up I walk the ladder base out from the tree until it sets right to the tree. Then I put the support brace in as high as I can reach with a ratchet strap against the tree. Then I wrap the ropes from the corners around the tree & tie them to the ladder as high as I can making sure they are very tight. Then the scary part is to climb it with my safety harness on hooking on every other rung as I climb. As long as the brace is on tight & the ladder is the at the right angle the ladder will be safe to climb. Keeping my body weight against the ladder until I get to the top & tie the top to the tree with the ratchet straps. And put a log chain & lock at the top to keep others from stealing it. Then I put on my safety strap around the tree & attach the climbing rope before I climb down. After I have it attached to the tree soundly I remove the ropes from the corners of the seat & remove the brace & take it with me so someone would have to crazy to climb it with out a brace. And getting to the top is the only way to remove the lock & chain.

I made a knockoff off this with a removable pin so I can put on different sizes , as all my ladders are different sizes.

I put up a ridge runner ladder stand today from Walmart, and I think it has a mossy oak seat, but it has the claw system too. Iām not sure that they really did a whole lot, but Iām sure they make SOMEONE feel safer lol. I just stand it up and then hop on the bottom rung until it was in the mud.
