Curious, has anyone experienced changes or differences in hunting over the years as it relates to a changing weather and climate?
(Also, full disclosure, this is Sarah Bowman with the Indianapolis Star, but want to know if this is something that people have experienced.)

Hi there, this is Sarah Bowman with the IndyStar. I'm working on a story about the bill in the legislature that has been proposed that would establish a bobcat hunting season (after last year's attempt at creating a rule through DNR was unsuccessful). I know there have been some comments on this thread about my coverage not favoring hunters -- I would like to say that I really try not to favor anyone but to present the facts and to represent the various opinions. I hope that my recent coverage of CWD and the decline in hunting represent that. I would like the opportunity to speak with some hunters to get their thoughts on this proposed legislation -- Is this season something they think is good? Or do they think it it's wrong of the legislature to take this authority away from DNR? If someone could get back to me by the end of the day Thursday, that would be much appreciated. You can reply or message me on this forum. Also feel free to call 317-294-7221 or email me at sarah.bowman@indystar.com. It is absolutely wrong of the legislature to take this authority away from DNR. If the legislature is going to make Wildlife rules then why is the DNR needed! BTW.....I have no problem saying my beliefs on this subject out in the OPEN....Being against this is no way making a person a anti hunter/sportsman many outdoorsman are not in favor of this process. Greghopper, would I also be able to use some of your comment in my story? Is the spelling of your name Greg Hopper or do you go by something else? Thank you, Sarah

We saw what a mess the rifles turned out to be in the beginning when the legislature messed with that rule. I’m all for a bobcat season in specified areas, but am not in favor of the legislature taking action on it. We should trust our dnr and biologists to do what is correct when it comes to the states wildlife. Whitetaildave24, would I be able to use some of your comment here in my story? Could I please have the spelling of your name? Thank you, Sarah

Hello, I'm working on a story about CWD and the enhanced surveillance that DNR is doing this year and last year as Indiana feels increasing pressure from neighboring states that have CWD detects creeping closer to our borders. I'm hoping to chat with a hunter(s) about CWD and their thoughts on the surveillance and what that could mean if it found here. If anyone is open to chatting, please give me a call (317-294-7221) or send a message/email (sarah.bowman@indystar.com).
If I could hear back by Tuesday morning (Nov. 20) with my deadline, that'd be great. Thanks.

Hi All, Sarah Bowman with the Star here. I know that a few deer reduction hunts are coming up in a couple weeks, and I was wondering if anyone had any interesting plans for the hunts (particularly those in Fort Harrison)? For example, any parents going out with their kids? Or planning to donate the meat from the hunt to a cause? Or any other ideas?
Just had some editors asking if there was anything to consider covering and wanted to reach out to get some thoughts and ideas -- Let me know, thanks!

Hi all, this is Sarah Bowman with the Indy Star. I know that the Indiana Natural Resources Commission has proposed a rule to allow for a hunting and trapping season for bobcats (as you mentioned above), with two public hearings for comments coming up next month.
I'd love to get some thoughts from folks about sightings of bobcats, why you might hunt/trap them and whether you are in favor of or against this proposed rule change (and why).
Let me know, feel free to respond here or email me (sarah.bowman@indystar.com) or give me a call (317-294-7221).
Thanks!

Hi all, this is Sarah Bowman with the Indy Star. I recently heard about some detection of Avian Cholera in waterfowl in Indiana, specifically over in the Gibson County area. Several hundred birds (mostly snow geese) have been found dead in the last couple months.
Is this something anyone has seen? Experienced? Have concerns about?
Let me know, feel free to respond here or email me (sarah.bowman@indystar.com) or give me a call (317-294-7221).
Thanks!

Hi everyone, I wanted to check back in and respond to a couple of the comments and questions.
I very much understand and appreciate some hesitancy that might be out there to communicate with the media. To elaborate, I am not working on a specific story at the moment -- I of course have several topics I am interested in learning more about (such as the tree stand/safety harness, for example). The main point of the thread and joining the forum is a genuine interest to hear about what are some of the main things being discussed, debated, or on the forefront of hunters' minds.
I know that the hunting community in Indiana is a very important and passionate one, as many of you have mentioned, and I want to make sure that I don't exclude your perspective in my coverage as the environmental reporter. Many of you also see and encounter various environmental topics (whether related to wildlife, policy, forest/land, etc.) from a different lens -- and I want to make sure I keep my pulse on things that might otherwise go unnoticed.
Please never hesitate to ask me questions, whether on a thread or a message, and I hope I can do the same whether about a very general topic or when I start working on more specific stories to learn your thoughts and gather information.
I hope that helps, thanks!

Hi all -- First, thank you Woody for posting your initial message and introducing me to the group. Also, thanks all for the warm welcome and I really appreciate those of you who have responded so far for sharing some of your thoughts with me. I certainly am jotting down some mental notes and ideas from your comments and may reach out to a couple folks to get some more information and just to learn more about the passion and purpose that drives you (as some of view mentioned or spoke a bit about).
And keep the comments coming, as well as any questions you may have for me. To answer one of the last questions: Sabalow is out in California right now working at the paper the Sacramento Bee.
P.S. -- If anyone wants to reach out individually, please feel free to message me on the forum or you can also email me at sarah.bowman@indystar.com or give me a call/text at 317-294-7221.
