Well, I just got off the phone with DNR. They said my DAV license is good until it expires for Small game and fishing, but if I buy a deer tag, I would still need to buy out of state being as I'm a resident and have a Ca Drivers License. I had to ask at least. Would have been nice being able to buy a deer tag with my DAV License. Hopefully a job opens back there soon...SF Woody Fingers crossed!!!!

The amount of traffic going West on Rt 30 this evening was nuts. Easily 2x-3x as much as on a Sunday evening with all the tourists going back to the big city. I imagine they went East and South East to see the eclipse.

97% here, one welding helmet wouldn't auto darken in the sun, the other would. It got cool and not real dark, but I had to turn the lights on in the pole barn. Not for long though.

OK FD, I have a question. I was told that the $$ raised at those DU events goes to the national chapter and doesn't stay local, where the NWTF banquet money stays local. Is that a correct statement? I can't speak for either organization since I am no longer on a committee HOWEVER The KANKAKEE GAME PRESERVE just added an additional 150+/- acres of ground to it's property thanks to a purchase by Ducks Unlimited. DU is constantly doing things all over the USA,CANADA and MEXICO to improve waterfowl and other habitats. I don't know of any NWTF projects in our area. I was a member of PF, DU, QU and NWTF when I was in So. Cal. QU and PF did the most work habitat and people wise. Guzzlers in the desert, PF put on hunts for kids (I ran my Springers for the kids, no adults were allowed to carry a gun and some parents were made to wait by the truck - they were complete jerks. The kids had a great time away from the jerk parents. NWTF was instrumental in getting wild birds from Nebraska to So. Cal so they could get established. The pen raised birds didn't know to roost in a tree and 99% were killed within a week of being released.

I have not used the service yet, but I have questions. For one thing, if I shoot something I want to mount, I assume that I would need to take the head to a taxidermist and NOT the free DNR testing freezer (because I doubt I would get the head back if I dropped it off at the testing freezer). I also need to find out if I can sever the head from the body after checking my deer in online (while still at my hunting property), since my hunting property is only minutes from one of the drop-off freezers. I need to find out if it is legal to transport a headless deer body in the back of my truck after dropping off the head at the DNR freezer. I believe you have to check in a deer before parting it up. Correct. Once a deer is checked in on-line it can be quartered, etc. Not checked in? Field dressed only from my understanding.

Just to check, you used a volumetric measurement of powder vs. a weight measurement, correct?

High clouds, like it's foggy up there, hazy, no individual clouds. Blue sky but not the clear blue it was yesterday morning.

So they’re just mentally sick? They don't have to be sick at all to test positive… Just as long as their vote doesn't count.

Since I have my daughter and 1 year old granddaughter living with me and there is really no conclusive study on CWDs effects on humans I do have some concerns. A faster check and results would be great. Here's what I posted in the other thread. I am not worrying about it at all. Take a look at Colorado. It was first detected in captive deer approximately 55 years ago and first detected in wild deer 43 years ago. How many people in Colorado have tested positive for CWD? Does that mean that I have absolutely 0 disregard for it? NO. But will I spend more than a few minutes worrying about it? Again, NO. Not a damn thing I can do about it, and nothing I can do will change anything about it. Will I shoot a known sick deer? Yes. Will I try to consume any part of it? No I checked today and here is what the CDC of the USA says about CWD. To date, there have been no reported cases of CWD infection in people. SO, if none has been found in 43-55 years of exposure to humans in Colorado, I ain't gonna worry about it.

No kidding, NR tags went through the roof. Costs an arm and a leg for me to hunt our own land there, well over 1k getting back and forth from Ca, I love being back home again and hunting, but I've also just considered being a tag along to my brother while he hunts. I have no problem just sitting out in the woods with nature. One day I will be back home and a resident again...until then, just do what I gotta do to enjoy my hobby.....SF Woody That's another reason why I bought a lifetime license. If I move out of state it's still valid here.

I was supposed to leave Sunday morning for Lonoke, AR to pick up fish on Monday morning, then beat feet North. I called the one hatchery and they said nope, don't bother, they won't have any trucks on the road and they said don't come down. Hotels are booked AND they bumped prices from $75-$80/night to $400-$500/night. They also said that when the partial eclipse happened in 2017, they were on the road coming back from delivering fish. A 10 hour drive turned into a 19 hour drive due to the traffic.
I was going to sleep in the truck but with the extra drive time, no way can I spend that many hours on the road. THEN on top of it, you don't know how many idiots will be driving and looking at the same time. 9,500#, 25' trailer and idiots? Nope.
SO, I am re-scheduling the fish pick-up.....

Been getting pictures on a regular basis....they are about 100 yards from the field where I'll have my blind. Hope the pattern continues. I'd set the blind about 20 yds up the hill from the camera. But that's me.

So sad. It was all over the news here, and also a friend of my mom's contacted us. These boys were/are friends with her kids. Please tell her that the family has my condolences. When I lived out there, an experienced turkey hunter said to sit with a pistol in my lap. Not legal, but they said that if a Mt. Lion got past the barrel of the shotgun, that was your only hope. That's where the saying "judged by 12 is better than carried by 6" is VERY true.
