Gene Hopkins asked that the following be sent out.Hi Folks, we really need your help and it won't take much effort. I've talked to most of you about the legislation to legalize the hunting of deer behind high fences (canned hunting). There is a hearing on this coming Monday(27th) for public comments. What I am asking you to do is take the email below and adjust it any way you want and send it BEFORE Monday night to the Judge as I have done. Nothing detailed or lengthy, just say "no to canned hunting". Thanks for you help, and check in with me if you want to keep up on what's happening on the sickening issue. Thanks! Send email to : jkane@nrc.IN.gov Sample email: Judge Lucas, I would like to submit my brief comments for the hearing on the permanent rule to ban canned hunting. I am in full support of the proposed rule as the DNR has written. Please consider my comments as part of the Public Hearing Comment Process in support of the permanent and immediate ban of canned hunting here in Indiana.. Thank You, Your Name Address

My email...
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I fully support the IDNR decision on closing the cervid “shooting preserves”.
As a long time deer hunter in the state of Indiana I would like to voice my opinion on “cervid farming” and “preserve shooting” in the state of Indiana.
I do not believe that wildlife should be sold to the highest bidder. It is my opinion that the commercialization of wildlife will doom the sport of hunting. Therefore I am opposed to any cervid farming for the purpose of selling the animal to be shot on the facility or transferred to another facility to shot for sport.
I do not have a problem with cervids being farmed for the expressed purpose of meat, velvet, urine or semen.
Hunting already has a rough row to hoe fighting off the ant-hunters and trying to recruit more hunters. We do not need anything that casts a bad light on hunting.
There is no doubt in my mind that ANY penned “hunting”, canned or otherwise, will be used by the anti-hunters as further proof that we hunters care about nothing but killing. Of course nothing could be further from the truth. But, that will be ammunition for them.
Deer hunting is already a big business sport in the state of Indiana where hunters contribute close to $200 million to the economy yearly. To jeopardize that resource by allowing just a few to make money on selling “antlers” is beyond my thinking.
There is mounting evidence that deer farms in other states have contributed to the spread of such diseases as CWD. I do not believe that it would be wise of the IDNR to take that chance, no matter how small we think it is, with our beloved whitetail deer herd.
Thank you,
|

PETA and HSUS are sending in their emails. We need to stand up and fight for the sportsmen and let the NRC know that PETA/HSUS does NOT represent the sportsmen and make the decisions in Indiana for us.
Ladies and Gentlemen,
I totally oppose the DNR attempt to shut down legally operating preserves in which the DNR has given written approval to operate. They have joined the PETA/HSUS groups just to have enough people to push a personal agenda and pitt sportsmen against sportsmen. The public meetings on this issue made it very clear with a head count of 254 in support and 73 in opposition (Names attached) that the sportsmen and public are against this rule. Everyone, Including myself, opposes "canned hunting" but that is not what they are after. They want to interfere with the well run preserves and hunting all over the State.
This industry is extremely important to the State of Indiana, to sportsmen and to the future of Hunting. These places offer yet more hunting opportunities for a sport that is in decline. If we do not protect hunting today against the ARF's there will be no hunting left for our children. The Indiana State Board of Animal Health can assure you the disease tactics used by the ARF's is purely a scare tactic.
Thanks for helping us protect, promote and preserve hunting and the hunting heritage in Indiana.

It seems like the personal attacks are acceptable as long as it's against someone that is for high fenced hunting. A rule is a rule, not when it just in your favor.
