Moved out of that god forsaken county 2 years ago and never looked back! Just kidding, great place to live if you can find work. I'd say there was nothing real special about Parke compared to the surrounding counties. They are all good places to hunt as is Indiana as a whole. I've hunted Laporte County to Lawrence Co and Deleware County to Vermillion county and few points inbetween with great luck. Each has it's own unique twist but I don't think I could say any one spot or county was better then the other.
Good luck this year!

I don't as of this Year, But Just picked up about 90 acers,to Hunt there next year, I am pretty excited about it, I have driven through Parke Co, and said to myself wish I had some place to Hunt over here, Be careful what you wish 4. S&W 629 Power Port. Oh how true that is, I had some problems with A couple Guys that thought they could Hunt the same woods I did, I new someone else was hunting it But could never Catch them, They stoled My new Trail Camera, was'nt the Best Camera but it worked and it was only in the woods 3 days, also My 2 Loc On Stand, about 8 section of Sticks. And they shot a Buck, Because they cut the Head off, and left the Body, Was a Big Body Deer, I Fricken Hate Pouchers, and Thieves. Why do they do That, For the Life of me I will Never Understand.

I live and work in Parke County. Yeah, I would agree with Duff, nothing special about Parke County, nope, not at all. Just an average county with average hunting. Very few turkeys and a handful of deer with below average antler growth. Nope, its about like any of the surrounding counties. Plain Jane. Might as well overlook this over-hunted, overrated county. Mean people here too, not friendly at all! I'd say you'd be better off somewhere in 'Da Region' or Marion County......

It's difficult to get one's humor sometimes in a written format, but I got it. Now I'm going to have to find out where Park county is. Do you know any bad fishing holes too?

I was born and raised in Parke county (Rosedale). The past five years or so I feel both the quality of deer, deer numbers and turkey numbers have dropped in my hometown corner of the county. Pheasants are gone and quail are down too. However, bobcats numbers are up and if we ever get a season, I know where to go. Smallmouth fishing on Sugar Creek is second to none. Land is overpriced, so I crossed the river and now live in Vermillion county not far from the Illinois border. My feeling is there are more older bucks this side of the Wabash.

I think Parke County gets a lot of press among hunters for being some big buck mecca. People think it's by far the best county in IN, but like others have said, I see no difference. I used to hunt a 75 acre chunk out there, but I quickly learned that it wasn't a whole lot (if at all) better than my closer-to-home spots. I ended up in Putnam or Hendricks counties most of the time instead.
I did pick up 50 acres in Brazil this year that I'm excited about. That'll put me in Hendricks, Putnam, and Clay counties for the 2013 deer season. I just have to decide which properties are going to be primarily my rut area, and which spots are going to be my "tinker" spots that I hunt regularly.

What I saw last year near rockville, lot of deer and hunters, some trespassing and poaching, and bunch of amish. Biggest buck I saw was a 120ish 8. I have spots closer to home with less deer and no pressure that blow parke away. I did pick up better terf there around raccoon lake area haven't scouted it yet

Parke county earned it's rep for big deer and lots of turkey during the eighties and ninties. Back then there were few hunters coincinding with the intial deer and turkey reitroduction. Getting permission to hunt was easy. Then Parke county began making the Big Three middle section all the time as being one of the top big deer and turkey counties in the midwest. It was true then, but not now in my corner of the county. Much of the ground I used to hunt is leased by non-natives. Many friends don't allow hunting anymore either because they're trying to grow that tv buck of a lifetime. They're in the wrong state and county. I see more monster bucks on Illinois public ground every season while bird hunting than I'll see in ten Parke county seasons on private ground. Way too many gun hunters and small parcels of ground for annual monster buck dreams in Parke county.

But our trophy deer numbers are still as good as they've ever been. Despite all the damn leasing and the Amish shooting their share of deer and some of the toothless locals shooting small bucks, we still grow more than our share of Booners.

Why do you all think the turkeys numbers are down in Parke.

Likely poor hatches the last couple years. Also predators such as coons and opossums raiding the nests hurts numbers. I have killed a ton of coon (50+ in 80 acre one woodlot) through hunting and trapping the past few seasons and saw my turkey numbers improve markedly on a couple farms I hunt I live in Montgomery just to the north of Parke county. Parke county certainly has excellent habitat and gets a lot of hype which has made land expensive and hard to gain access to as more and more ground is leased each year. It's proximity to Indy has made it a popular place among Indianapolis area hunters as well. Why do you all think the turkeys numbers are down in Parke.

I have lived in southern Parke about 22 years. I say that we have bucks that rival any in the country. I have trail cam pictures to prove it. The big thing going on is leasing or outright purchase by wealthy folks out of Indy, Champaign, even Chicago. They are paying astronomical prices for farms and forest plots so they have a weekend place. There is a place near me that is about 200 acres with a really nice strip pit that was bought by a few doctors out of Indy a few years back. They put in some little cabins and don't give permission to anybody. That's great, wish I could do it. But it is locking up more and more ground.
A sizable piece of farm ground near me with some woods just sold at auction for about $9500 an acre, and I have heard stories of higher. Think about that - 50 acres would be almost a half million at that price.
Oh, and the Amish are continuing to buy ground too - word has it that if they want it, they will put money on the table that can't be ignored.
It is changing, but still a great place. I am glad I have my 10 acres of woods, and control of another 70 or so, I plan to stay until I am carried out.
