he was talking about the current regulations where gun season can come in November 12-18 depending on the year.
It floats around in that time frame.
This year it comes in on the 13th ... last year it was the 14th. Next year would be the 12th followed by the 17th in 2012 unless these changes are made.

If the peak of the "rut" is generally around the 10th, how could moving the gun season to the 18th be sharing the "peak" of the rut? Did I not read that correctly? I read that as giving in some more to the other side of the aisle. The 10th "peak"isn't verifiable... just from my 41 years of observations.. IF the gun season comes in the Saturday before Thanksgiving as proposed then we are moving past the rut and to the tail end/winding down period. Not sure if the IDNR doesn't understand that during the rut it is not only the bucks that are more active, but also the does. The IDNR needs to study what happend and what they did in 2004 (November 13th opener) and try to imitate that.

I don't support these changes, but I've seen really good rutting activity in Illinois on the Sat. before Thanksgiving.

I always think in terms of fewer buck sightings by this time but is that because the guns have been booming a few days? Could it be possible to still witness some rut activity with a delayed opener?

Yes, IMO.
South of the lease timex has in Knox county there is a whole lot of farm ground farmed by one family ..... it takes an act of God to hunt that property. The rut activity has been very intense up through the end of November on those farms and I believe it all comes down to pressure.

I for one always like to gun hunt in the "peak" of the rut, those boners were always pushing does right my way, guess things will change in 2011.

I'm trying look on the bright side as I think the proposed changes will come to be. Timex's statement gives me some hope. All I've ever experienced for whitetail hunting is Indiana's seasons structure.

I cannot. One place where we are in complete agreement is "how in the world did they come up with this number of drastic changes all at once" To get different results, you must first do something different.

The farm I hunt in Illinois, borders the Wabash directly across the river from my Indiana property. I know that the deer cross the river several times daily on some days. 2 years ago, on the Friday that Illinois opened, which is the Friday before T-day, my camera man and myself had 22 different bucks come within gun range of us. One half rack buck, which would have been in the 160 range had he not been broke off, came to a scrape 5 times.....15 yards from the stand. But that farm has very little pressure from Nov. 1 on, so I think more pressure would put a damper on it a lot.
