So Proud of my Daughter for accomplishing her first deer kill. Most of all i'm proud of a comment that she made to me on the way home.
As a father I raise my children with the hopes that the lessons I teach them shape them into the person I pray they become. I wonder sometimes if what I do is enough. I wonder if they "Get It!"
"Getting It" is so many diffent things depending on the lesson we are teaching. In this case the lesson I wanted my daughter to learn was to fall in love with the outdoors. This hunt was never about shooting the biggest buck in the woods. This hunt was never about getting a deer at all.
This hunt was about me sharing my love for the outdoors with my daughter. Spending time with her, holding her in my arms as the first light of day breaks. Listening to her every breath and taking in every moment as she gets her first opportunity at a buck. Learning as much from her as she learns from me. It was about lying in my bunk at the end of long hunt looking at her fast asleep. Wishing time would stand still!
I get it, but would she. Driving home I asked her if she had fun? She told me ,"Daddy I had so much fun this weekend. I love spending time with you. Thank you so much for taking me hunting!" Then she said something that I will never forget. "Daddy sometimes I feel so Sorry for other kids!" I asked her WHY? Her response. "Well Dad some kids don't have a dad because the died, or their parents are divorced and they don't get to see their Dad's Much. The don't have a dad to do with them what I get to do with you. So I feel sorry for them!"
It just about made me cry. It was at that moment that I knew that she "Got It!" She knew what this weekend was all about to me...because to her it was about the same things. We got a doe, but most of all we have each other!
I'll post some pictures of the fun we had. I hope you all enjoy the pictures. Thank you all for being part of this weekend. We are blessed to have shared this weekend together.
