My new rifle is currently....
under my truck.
I had to put tires on the beast, so a few more weeks of overtime are required before the toy can join the party.

Work has announced that we will be receiving a Christmas bonus this year....
I'll check the bill situation first, but after taxes it will cover the gun, sling, and some ammo. All I'll need then is to choose glass and bipod. Woohoo!

As far as glass goes ive been super impressed with the SWFA line. I have a fixed 16x and its more than enough for 400 yards. My only complaint is that I prefer the reticle to match the turrets. If youre ranging through a scope youll want a mil reticle and the math is easier if the turrets match.

Still no answer on when I can expect my chosen addition to be in stock.....
I poked around and found it in stock elsewhere. I ended up getting the full size version (4 inch longer barrel and 1.25 inch longer pull) for $60 cheaper than planned. After tax, shipping, and local transfer fee I'm still $22 below the rifle price I was looking at.
Talked to the local dealer today that will be doing the transfer and it seems like I may have found a new store to do business with. I'll know for sure in about a week when all of this is completed.
Hmm.... With the timing of delivery, it looks like I have a fabulous birthday present on the way. :-)

Birthday delivery came early. Woohoo!
For the time being, I'm going to steal the 6.5 - 20 X 50 off the 243 then decide on permanent glass later.

I've been chasing coyotes every winter for the past 20 years or so. In that time I've tried several rifles and have settled on three. My first choice, and what I consider a nearly perfect predator hunting rifle is a stainless / synthetic Remington 700 mountain rifle in .243 Winchester. I hand load 75 grain Sierra HP's for this rifle and it does a great job. Being stainless synthetic makes it nearly impervious to weather so getting caught in the rain or snow is no issue. The heavier bullets at higher velocity seem to buck the wind good enough to make this rifle fairly easy to shoot on windy days in open country. Second is another Remington 700. This one is a stainless / synthetic SPS in .22-250. I hand load 55 grain Sierra Game King HP's at 3500 FPS for this rifle. Not as good in the wind as the .243 but a great open field rifle. It's light and handy enough to be carried from stand to stand all day long. I once fell through an iced over creek and completely submerged this rife. I removed the ammo and the bolt, shook it out and continued hunting. Once back home I just pulled the action out of the stock and leaned it near the heat register to dry it out. Third is a 16" AR-15 in 6.8 SPC. I load it with 90 grain Sierra Varminters or 90 grain Speer TNT's at 2800 FPS. I feel I lose too much velocity from a 16" barreled AR in 5.56, so the heavier bullets from the 6.8 SPC make it a much better choice. While I do have and use a 5.56 AR from time to time I've found it to be somewhat underpowered for large coyotes. On a couple occasions I made perfect shoulder shots on large coyotes at less than 100 yards, only to have them get up and leave. I found that a .22-250 with the same bullet, but running 500 FPS faster from a 22 inch barrel, would give the penetration needed to access their vitals while the 5.56 would splash on the shoulder and fail to penetrate. The OP's choice of a .22-250 is a good one and he should be very satisfied with it. He already had a great predator rife with his .243 though.

Christmas deals are either the greatest thing ever or gonna make me broke.
I came across a Firefield 8-32 X 50 on sale with lighted green and red mil dot reticle. Not a brand I've heard of so it will be an adventure. I'll find out next week how well it pairs up, but it will keep me from setting the 243 up again.
