Went out this morning to do a little more scouting and saw a tom and two hens. One of the hens had about an 8”-10” thin beard. Also got to witness something I’ve never seen before…watched a tom breed a hen. Those hens get abused during that process…😅

It is DEAD in our area. Havent seen but 2 birds in last 2 days of travel. At one of our spots now, and not so much as a single track. Kinda crazy. Putting up one cam in an area we have seen them in years past.
Heading to our public land draw area next to look around.

Refreshing to see 4 Tom's fanned out on the public spot. Two on the drive, and better yet two were in our area we will hunt. I have seen them in years past, so know it's a decent spot.

I've seen more birds the last few days out in fields strutting than I have all Spring - including my neighbors back yard.

Same here. Finally have them around the house again. Hopefully they stay until season. Got one gobbling out back right now.

I wish they were in our area like they used to be. Only gotten one on camera since deer season. Maybe that bobcat? To many Coons, Coyotes? Got plenty of coons hanging around. Hopefully see more when there, might just be shy for the camera...SF Woody

Made room for more turkey breast in the freezer yesterday! I made my last breast yesterday. Cubbed it up and soaked it in buttermilk overnight. I made half of them with just a regular seasoned breading and the other half got dipped in a smoked bourbon hot sauce before getting rolled in a Cajun seasoning. Both turned out really good!

Went out after work this afternoon (What a gorgeous day btw!) and checked cams and did some scouting. Got a couple long beards for sure.

I did end up taking opening day off for turkey season. A friend of mine had to really twist my arm 😉 to get me to.
We plan on roosting birds Tuesday evening and teaming up Wednesday morning.
I invited Daphne to come out and roost birds with us Tuesday evening and she laughed like I had just told her the funniest joke ever! Lol! So, I guess that is a no.

I got all my clothing sprayed down with permethrin. Freshened up the crystal call and box call and loaded up my turkey vest. I bought an Alps vest a few years back that has the frame attached with the folding legs. I hadn't used it since I broke my knee. Set it up this evening and, after a few adjustments, it's pretty comfortable. I took a couple shots at different angles in it as well. We'll see how cozy it is in longer durations.
I am ready as I'm going to get. I have a blind that I'll throw in the truck for rainy days.
