I was super impressed with the range. Trap and skeet - $5 to shoot trap or skeet and basically on the honor system. Go shoot and then pay. Voice actuated trap house.. Great..unless someone is blowing a goose call behind you. The rifle and pistol range - Great set up, but talk about SHOCK AND AWE when the big boomers go off. The overhead concrete directs that BOOM and CONCUSSION right back down at you, no matter who is doing the shooting. That BOOM even resonates back out into the parking lot. IMO - they need to add some acoustics to the shooting area overhead concrete. If you go shoot there by all means wear double protection.. ear plugs and muffs.. Take this from one that has lost some hearing - protect your hearing, shooting and hunting.....

If I am going to shoot in the future, I will need to invest in a good pair of "muffs". I also got a kick out of the fact that the goose calls set off the clay thrower...the voice activation on that thing is sometimes frustrating as you have to say "pull" 3 times to get it to throw, and then it will throw a broken one or the guy will have to clear the machine. It might be nice to have the option to have manual control over the clay pigeon throwing if another person is with you and is not shooting...

The very first range by the club house had a hand held control and we used it to shoot skeet. i like the hand held better than the voice activated. I was shooting next to Art and when the guys were blowing the calls it would throw two or three clays. I was surprised the range master didn't get mad at us. Sometimes closing up the action on the pump guns would cause it to throw.
If you ever want to make someone mad at you when shooting skeet just be late on the button when they call for the bird. LOL Some guys are really serious about their shooting and take it real hard if your late. LOL h.h.

If closing the action on the pump made them go off then Woody's never clays never did come out.
Range was great but a agree with Travis a cant belevie there was no concession stand inside just the machines outside that did not work.

If closing the action on the pump made them go off then Woody's never clays never did come out. Just beat down an forgetful old man.. Pull, click, flinch.....The guy inside said the drink machines weren't their's. More "contracting out". Bad thing is you did not have correct change you went thirsty.. No dollar changers there at all....

I'd say on a crowded day, the range master might have been less tolerant of our antics, but they were good about the fun we were having. They did mention in the future to let them know and they could reserve our own trap/skeet field for the group. It's an awesome facility and I hope that other areas of the state are on the list to get facilities to replace the old ones at some of the SRA's and F&W areas.
Good point John about Woody's action not tripping the throwers......LOL

I'll tell you what it was nice to see $4.7 million of taxpayer dollars going to a good project like that for a change! That was truly one of the nicest facilities I've ever been to!

I've been to a number of skeet/trap ranges here and out of state and it is the nicest. Beings it's a new facility maybe they just need to get some of the kinks worked out and make some modifications from user input. The range master was definitely a good sport but next time I'm sure he'll be taking some of you aside for a reprimand.

Why would he give us a reprimand Art, we were just trying to help you and make you feel at home with a big Gander in the background.

The Trap & Skeet Range Masters were nice guys, but a bit arrogant @ times. Particularly when I asked for a discount on all of the clays I missed. ;D ;D ;D

The Trap & Skeet Range Masters were nice guys, but a bit arrogant @ times. Hmm.. I scratched my head when the range master told JKD how to load a Model 12. Jkd has probably forgotten more about Model 12s than that guy knows totally. He sure wanted my Rem 870 TB.... not for sale....
