I wonder if other states/groups will follow.
I have long been open to the idea of people voluntarily going through training and forming a "militia" of sorts to be used by departments.
It would help out in many different ways .... trained (if there is really such a thing) manpower when needed most.

You may need to change your mind since I've been advocating that for as long as I can remember/have had access to firearms.
Whenever and wherever possible, wherever I have lived, I have volunteered as a "Reserve" or "Auxiliary", trained and armed "contingent" officer.
AFAIC it should be part of and built into your 2-4 years IRR after Discharge.
