tinyurl.com/368yy3Copy & paste the whole line above. It should give you a hybrid view just north of Terre Haute. If not go north on 63 just north of where 63 & 41 merge and north of the bridge on the west side of the river there is a creek that is orange, very noticable. Trace the creek up and you can find the source of the pollution, acid mine drainage. Duff, I fixed it for you... I love Tinyurl....

If you follow the creek up you can see where the yellow starts at.

That is incredible! You sure somebody just didn't pee in that creek and turn it yellow? That much acid can't be good!

The acid leaches sulfur compounds from the rocks/sediment and stains the stuff in the water. I have seen creeks with a pH of just over 2 that were completely orange like that. For reference typical creek water will have a pH of 6-9, and the pH scale 1 is most acidic, 7 neutral, and 14 being basic (caustic) like lye (sodium hydroxide).
EPA defines hazardous waste at below 2 and above 12.5, based on the corrosive characteristics of these materials. Erodes steel at a defined rate, destroys flesh in a specific amount of time. For comparison vineager has a pH about 2-3.
Some useless info for your pleasure

The source seems pretty evident and based on the work I used to do with the State there isn't much they can do about the acid mine drainage. You did call your local CO, right?

You did call your local CO, right? No telling how old the photo is either. I know when I zoom in on my house my grass is green and the neighbor's is brown (Zoysia). No leaves on the trees means it is winter.
