Sport Shows are a miracle remedy for the most common of winter ailments. Where else can sporting enthusiasts gather amongst their peers in January without having to be concerned about suffering the effects of cabin fever, snow blindness, or frostbite? For those of you who are through hunting, or too tired of cleaning ice out of your rod’s eyelets to make one more cast, attending Indiana On The Fly may be just what the doctor ordered. This year marks the inaugural attempt at producing an Indiana Sport Show devoted solely to fly fishing. The show is set to take place January 5, 2008 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Indiana State Fairgrounds in the Farm Bureau Building.
The Indianapolis based fly fishing group, “Reel Women . . . Reel Men”, are responsible for the production of this show, while the contributions of many sponsors, including Bloomington outdoor store, JL Waters, have allowed the dream of this show to become a reality. This one-day affair will allow fly fishers the opportunity to gather for a day of learning, shopping, and good ol’ fashion truth stretching. Learn tips from experts, meet guides and lodge owners, and have a peek at some the new and traditional products on the market. The show has sold out its booth space, so there will be plenty of vendors on hand to answer questions and book trips.
Seminars will be conducted throughout the day, with the recognizable, Tim Holschlag, headlining the list of speakers. Tim is a full time writer and smallmouth bass expert from Minnesota. He has been guiding fishermen on Midwestern waters in search of bronzebacks for twenty years. Tim has authored two books on the topic of fishing for smallmouths, Stream Smallmouth Fishing and Smallmouth Fly Fishing. He is scheduled to speak at 2:45 p.m.
This first attempt at hosting a fly fishing show in Indiana will determine whether or not turning this show into an annual event is feasible. If you are a fly fisherman or if you are interested in becoming one, drop by Indiana on the Fly and help ensure the future of the show. You just may come away with some great gear, or if your new to the sport, you may discover an addictive passion; fly fishing.
This year’s show is dedicated to the memory of Jack Scifres. Jack was a founding member of “Reel Women…Reel Men” and was a longtime regular at FlyMaster’s of Indianapolis. Jack was also the brother of well-known and highly respected Indiana Outdoor Writer “Bayou Bill”.
Admission will be $5.00 for all, and children less than 10 years old will be admitted free.
See you down the trail…..
