Don't know what it is, but last few years I have been ready for the season but not craving it like I am now. I am really ready to get into my tree stand. Maybe due to the limited time I spent out there last season, but that was due to success (5 times out and 3 deer). Can't complain about that. Anyways this cooler weather, the leaves falling in the morning rain really getting me pumped up.

I'm the same way Duff...I always get excited about the opener, but for some reason this year it consumes just about every thought.
Can't wait!

Looks like my opening day plans a re a bust! Kids activities are going to screw up the morning hunt. I might make a late afternoon hunt if all goes well. I'm not gonna sweat it though, I am seeing so many Does around my house everydaythat people would swear was raising them in a pen!:>)
The big bucks are still eluding me though!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found one big bruiser but I cant get premission to hunt any closer than 2 miles from where I am seeing him!

I always look forward to "The Opener" but for some reason I don't get as excited as I used to.
Maybe it is because before I retired I could only hunt so much and every minute was very special.
Now I can hunt every single day the season, weather and wife permitting, and I've learned to pace myself.
My first season after retirement I hunted every day and soon found out I was making work out of hunting. I came to that realization when I was sitting in my stand the wind was blowing 30 miles an hour and sleet was hitting me in the face.
Early season is just not as big a turn on for me as it once was..
Now, as the season progresses and the big boys start their movement I get more excited. I still pace myself..
I guess I just prefer to hunt the pre-rut and rut when the air is crisp and not 90 degrees, leaves are more off the trees, bugs/ticks are gone, crops are out, deer are more active, etc, etc...
With that said - Yes, I'll be in my stand at sun up on "The "Opener"..
Good luck to all..

Woody,
I'm with you on the temps and crops... about five years back, I arrowed a doe (high quartering away lung shot) during late morning about 20 yards into the woods from a corn field... she headed right for the fence, and we spent the next 1.5 hours running the blood trail til we found her... she had run up and down a row and doubled-back while crossing back and forth between rows... temps were in the 70's by the time we got to her... and some fun dragging her across standing corn...
Since then I use early archery more for scouting, and get serious when the corn is off... but if the big one steps out opening morning... oh, well... :-)
Will be out this weekend getting some practice in!

It better be a lot cooler than it is now or I will just wait a few more days. Like Woody being retired I can hunt when I want. Good luck to everyone.

The weather is definately dampning my spirits. It is hard to get fired up when it is 90 degrees out the week before season starts. And i havent seen alot of deer activity lately just a couple of small bucks. We are going to start cutting beans monday or so so that might change some things in our area.
