would you guys cull this one or give him another year? It is hard to judge he looks maybe 2-2 1/2 ? Judging from his antlers not being out past his ears much and a 8 pointer is hard to guess if he would do much better in the next year anymore than a point or 2 being added. Open to suggestions?

Looks like a young deer with plenty of potential to me, but I am not the best when it comes to judging cattle. Not sure if I believe in the effectiveness of "cull" either. Personally I would not shoot it based on the agreement I have with my wife (does only unless it goes on the wall), but to each their own.

It looks like a young deer to me. I'm guessing it would take a few years to tell what he's going to be. What's up in the nad region... that's what I what to know. Looks like he might be growing something extra down there?

It cracks me up when I hear about guys "culling" bucks. You are wasting your time unless you own/lease 10,000+ acres. If the deer suits you kill it, if not pass. IHO

duff...you need to start carrying a hack saw in the truck. Like she'd even know if it was a buck or not, just a good excuse to keep me from pulling the trigger on the first buck I see. She'd have to see it first. With the spots I am allowed to hunt, I ain't shooting a small one. Not a chance, not even the last day of the season. Way too many BIG bucks for me to settle for what I've always settled for. Besides I haven't been duck/goose hunting nearly as much as I used to, might as well deer hunt.

If he is the biggest deer your area take him. I would not pick up my bow on this he has a lot of growing to do.

Your thinking wrong, in two years he will be a very nice trophy if he makes it. Culling is for big Texas ranches and high fence ops.

If your questioning yourself, let him walk, I think you'll be making excuses for taking this buck in the future and he doesn't deserve to be considered a cull. He will be a bigger deer given time and nutrition.
That said, take him if you feel it.

Why do guys want to "cull" young bucks? Can anyone really tell what a bucks potential is when he is 2 1/2 years old? Let them grow up. I would like to know how many culled bucks would have turned into great bucks if they had only had the chance to reach their potential.

Im thinking QDMA...let him walk.....no brainer. If your hungry...shoot does. If you want a buck and shoot him, dont complain when your not seeing big bucks. Not being an arse...just tired the same song and dance. He could turn into something special....depends on what your goals are.
