I would say in the next week or 2. They'll start fighting before the does come in to heat, trying to establish dominance. They're probably already starting to get a little frisky.

I'd say with the cold nights we are having this weekend it will get that testosterone flowing in the bucks. I'd try some light rattling if I were going out this weekend, or early in the week. I wouldn't go nuts with the rattling, but a little right now might be enough to bring in your buck.

Like BSU said,, just using them very lightly making it sound like light sparing won`t hurt a thing. By the end of the month to the first week of Nov they will start picking up the momentum on their sparing and move into actual fighting.

Buddy of mine did some light rattling and grunting Saturday morning. Called in a small 4 pointer.

You can "lightly" rattle now as the younger bucks are playfully testing-out their new headgear. The serious stuff with the big boys usually kicks in around Halloween.

If it helps any, I had two bucks sparring in front of me Saturday evening. They started by grooming each other, then it got a little aggressive. It lasted about 40 seconds.

During the pre-rut stage, i would suggest to rattle on the evening hunts rather than the morning hunts. Also before you rattle give a couple soft grunts 10-15 min. before you first begin to rattle. Reason for that is, any buck within' 60-100 yards of you will more than likely pin point you. I also wouldn't suggest getting to radicial with the antlers for a couple more weeks.
Hope this was hopefull! And good luck!

Tickle them together right before sundown for the next 10 days.
