Hey Fellas..
I got #2 this morning... I shot another really nice doe. Not as HUGE as the FIRST one I shot a few weeks ago but she field dressed 117 lbs. and she will look GREAT in the freezer. Getting ready to head out searching for #3
That new Excalibur Phoenix is "ONE MEAN MAMMA-JAMMA.." (I am getting to like this crossbow hunting!!)

Just this year, I had to switch to hunting with a crossbow due to some physical limitiations. I was apprehensive but at least I can enjoy shooting archery without enduring all the pain.
A crossbow is FUN and still challenging and IF any one out there is facing the possibility of not being able to particpate in bowhunting using a vertical bow, I would suggest considering a crossbow. I have shot archery and bowhunted since 1964 and I just DID NOT want to give up on something I LOVED TO DO...
I was granted a permit to use a crossbow for all deer seasons.. It sure beats NOT being ale to go...
GOOD HUNTING.... Bud Fields

Congrats on the doe! I could have had a big old doe out of my blind if I had an xbow saturday morn, no way to position myself where I could get drawn without her busting out, which she did.

parrothead..
I am just a "ROOKIE" with a crossbow so far. You have tio manually cock the crossbow first. I use a "rope cocker" but there is also a crank type cocker that works like a boat trailer winch. After the crossbow is cocked, you apply the safety and stick an arrow/bolt inside the track and then you have to wait.
When the deer approaches your position, you still have to estimate yardage, make very slow movement and execute the shot. It is still VERT CHALLENGING!!
I have my Excalibur Phoenix crossbow sighted in for 20-30-40 and 50 yards and I feel VERY confident of shot placement at those yardages IN MY BACK YARD TARGET RANGE but in the woods, I limit my shots to 30 yards or less whenever possible.
Both of the deer I have taken this season were taken at 30 yards and the arrow/bolt penetrated BOTH shoulders and out the opposite side. TREMENDOUS POWER and PENETRATION.
It is a fun way to hunt and target shoot as well and I did not want to give up all the years of archery shooting and hunting..
