A hunting friend of mine was telling me once that friends of his were out Deer Hunting in Tn. several years ago. The three hunters were to meet back at the truck at noon so they could eat lunch and resume hunting that afternoon. Well, two returned to the truck but the third hunter didn't so the two walked down to his tree stand and found him sitting under his stand. One of the Hunters said to him "Missed that buck"? He nuged him and the third hunter fell over dead. He apparently had a heart attack and was trying to get back to the truck. He made it only to the base of his stand and died. He had NO history of heart disease either. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT for hunters to carry either cell phones or "walkie-talkies" incase of emergencies. Deer Hunting requires one to be in tip-top physcial condition.

Interesting. 80's/90's Winchester 1894, crossbolt safety, large loop lever and scout mount scope.
What? You didn't notice?

I had a heart attack in'01. Just a couple weeks after dragging out a 8 pointer I had got. Now I have a cardio stress annually and the doc lets me know my physical condition.
I keep an ATV with me on my hunts. It stays on the trailer unless I need to haul one out.

Know your limits and if you been sitting around all year get a baseline checkup.

Well Gary remember, I'm just a phone call away too if you need help.
On a different note, if I had to go (as long as it was quick) the deer woods would be nice.

On a different note, if I had to go (as long as it was quick) the deer woods would be nice. I told the wife, if/when I go, have someone sprinkle my ashes off the back of a quad while going through the woods. Let me fertilize some food for the deer. She got mad and wanted to know why I don't want to spend eternity next to her. I told her she could be sprinkled in the woods too. Problem solved!

I would say the biggest danger is other selfish "elitist" hunters that are only concerned about how they take game.

I will agree on the you need to be in decent shape theory to deer hunt. As for the cell phone, walkie while they may be beneficial in keeping in contact if you had a severe kill on the spot heart attack you would not be able to use it anyway. Bottom line there is they may help but not always. Like everything else. You don't have to be in marathon runner shape, walking a mile or two with a lite pack (10-15 lbs and heavy boots) and keeping it under 15 minutes a mile 3 to 4 times a week will do okay. Using lite (non muscle or joint injurious) weights is also good. And of course check with your medical professional to make sure that you are healthy enough to exorcise.
