Sunday morning I walked to my stand with a drag rag of doe estrous and hung it on a branch about 10 yds from my stand. Right at first light, this nice heavy racked 8pt. came out of the woods about 15 yds to my right. I knew I was going to shoot him as soon as I saw him so I stood up and grabbed my bow. He came out into a cut bean field and stood broadside at 20 yds. This should have been a chip shot, but I got excited and forgot to pick a spot. I hit him pretty far back, not a good shot. So I waited to check the arrow for about an hr. Then I got down and saw decent blood on the arrow, but it was pretty dark so I thought probably liver hit. We backed out and gave him about five hrs, and then picked up the trail about noon. I shot him around 7:30. We had pretty good blood for about 150 yds and then it just quit. We thought he was going to follow this fence row and head into a grown up crp field where they bed, but couldn't find any sign of where he'd entered. That's when my cousin mentioned that he'd seen fresh buck tracks by the road about 500 yds in the opposite direction in which we thought he'd ran. So, we went and checked out the tracks and noticed that they looked the same as the tracks my buck was leaving. We followed them to the road and sure enough there was blood on the road. He'd crossed the county road and went onto the neighbors property. I'm not from the area where we lease so we had to go find out who owned the property and get permission to look for my deer. Once we got permission, we picked up the search inside the woods. We found very little blood, but just enough to guess at which direction he was going. After about 3 hrs of trailing and little blood, we were just about ready to give up, when my cousin and hunting partner yelled, "There he is, at the bottom of the hill!" I was so excited. I was on an emotional roller coaster Sunday. I went from the highest of highs to the lowest of lows, but it ended very well. This was my biggest buck to date, and with a bow, I couldn't be happier.

Just out of curiosity, anyone got any guesses as to what his gross score is? This is my largest buck with a bow, and I'm just curious as to what he'll score. I realize he's not a monster, but would like to know. Thanks,
Ryan

Congrats Nice buck! i think they are diffently up looking for Hot does Now. I saw a decent 8 that was crusing the field this mororing, just could'nt get him to respond to any calls, and even hit the horns together, (tickle), he had his nose to the ground the whole way.
