I put a trail camera out in Illinois to see if any turkeys where using a powerline. I was surpirised to see this fellow on the card. I never saw or got pics of him during last hunting season. Looks like he will be a dandy this year. For some reason my Moultrie doesn't keep the time very well.

Yep, surprised to see one with headgear. Hopefully he'll be around for you in the fall.

nice buck !!! i saw a good one the other night still with antlers.
moultries are notorious about keeping time right. i have three D-40's and one of them will lose 10 minutes a day.now the flash has quit working on two of them.within a week of each other.have had 1 for two years and just got 2 more last fall. great cameras though !

Their must have been some late does in estrus...once the hormone levels drop so do the antlers...
Recently found a shed that could be a match for that rack...

Their must have been some late does in estrus...once the hormone levels drop so do the antlers... Recently found a shed that could be a match for that rack... All the research I've read said there in no link between hormones and how long it takes for antlers to drop. The single biggest factor is the same thing that makes them grow. Nutrition. A deer with a good nutrition source tends to hang on its antlers longer according to research studies. The exact cue of antler shedding in deer is complex. In short, decreasing day length signals the testes to lower the levels of testosterone which, in turn, causes the antlers to shed. However this is a timing factor that starts the process. They also believe genetics, dominance and stress play some into it.
