...a notable lack of brow tines around here, all the same! The landowner where I hunt found this skull in the middle of his field after something deposited it there. It has been in the woods at least a year, I'd say, so I don't know why a critter bothered to lug it around. At any rate, it is the fourth example of a buck from this land missing one or both brow tines. One was a 140-class buck killed by the landowner missing one brow; one was a trail camera photo of a buck missing one brow, one was a dead buck missing both; and finally the skull pictured here. Judging by the size of the skull I'd say it is not a 1 1/2 year old buck, but a smallish rack from an older deer---perhaps a 2.5 year old. The beading and junk suggests an older deer, although young deer sometimes have genetically gnarly racks, of course. I didn't look close at the teeth. Anyway, it seems to be a common trait around here. I find it interesting, and I thought I'd share. The trail camera buck...
