I would say beings one buck will breed several doe's and if you take the buck's out them doe's aren't having little one's on their own.
But, I was told a long time ago, you can't eat them horn's boy!!
This was by a man that never killed a buck or not one I would consider taking anyway.

you are right about the buck not breeding the doe but that doesnt mean she wont get bred at all. Another buck will get her my point was that farmers want deer dead. they dont care how many. If you notice on the app for this program it asks you how many does your willing to kill. All I was trying to say is that there are to many guys that just gotta have that buck and to a farmer killing just that buck isnt gonna save his crops. Hes not gonna look at it as that bucks not gonna breed he sees 10 20 30 or however many deer out there eating his fields and he wants them gone. when he lets a guy hunt and the guy finishes the season with only one deer , that farmer still sees all the rest of them still out there eating. With this program the hunter is telling the farmer hes out there to kill as many deer as he can and if the farmer allows him to kill a buck thats an added bonus besides its a good way to show the landowners your a responsible hunter and it may secure some land for next year

Not many guys out there that WON'T shoot a doe. The problem is that shooting one costs you money and work, getting it out and getting it taken care ofand in the freezer . That's why it got to be economical for the hunter to take does. The DNR and the farmer wants more does killed, they need to work on the priceing and provide for a "free" HFH drop off to make it happen.

This program has nothing to do with HFH (unless you want to donate). otherwise if you process yourself what extra cost is there

It has to do with reality. HFH facialitates killing more does. Guys only kill what their freezer will hold normally, so a free drop off is needed to excede that number. This isn't rocket science and has been going on in a lot of states, so it's proven.
Pesently, it costs a NR hunter $150 to kill the first doe.......when a lot of them can do it at home for free or at very low costs. Just not going to happen much at those prices.

I don't need another place to hunt but I put my name in the hat just to kill does. I consider it a public service and hope to help the image of hunters.

your arguement is only good when you first state that you are a non resident hunter. You have a point when you say the cost of a NR tag isnt worth the costs of killing a doe but why should that have to effect residents. If you dont support the states program then dont sign up for it. Keep that space open for someone who is willing to shoot a couple extra does.

But there is a push and shove here as that could mean less money for the IDNR on residents. My thought is IF they lowered the prices of NR bonus tags they would make more money as t hey would actually sell some. In KY you get two tags when you buy your deer license.. You can kill your buck AND doe on it. All othe bonus tags are $15 (if I remember correctly). Illinois is cheap too on the bonus/doe tags - resident and NR.

I signed up in hopes to find an urban zone to hunt in. Looking for something to be able to go out after work and starting the season early doesn't hurt either.
I don't mind killing doe's and if I am going to eat the meat, I prefer a 1 1/2 year old doe. Enough meat to make it worth the initial $24 antlerless tag and still edible without having to grind it into Hamburger.
And I usually kill at least 5 doe's every year. Everybody wants the meat in my family and not many hunt.

Decatur - Sept. 14 is when the landowners can start contacting their local wildlife biologists according the IDNR info, and Woody has the links at the beginning of the thread...
I signed up too, for Madison and Hendricks counties... I will be interested to see if ANYONE on here or other sites that signed up actually gets a call on this, so if anyone hears anything, post it up...
