Cleetus - I feel your pain, and as a landowner, I know where you're coming from... having a stand stolen anywhere is bad enough, but having stuff stolen on your own property is the lowest...
I've been considering building some elevated shooting houses for the upcoming season by cutting some 8" or so diameter trees for use as posts, and building a platform from 2x6 or better framing. I'm thinking the post concept would eliminate the problem of a growing tree pulling out nails/screws. I'm planning on making the platform open air with a railing at first, and use camo burlap for cover, then enclose later on... big enough for 2-3 guys...
Anyway, I thought maybe if you had access to some scrap lumber, you might be able to rig up a box for less than a ladder stand, and theives aren't likely to try and steal a constructed box setup... get your little girl involved and make it a kind of treehouse type thing...
If you think this concept might work for you, I'm not that far from Anderson and would be glad to help out...

Cleetus, Sorry to hear it. I had a stand stolen about 30 years. I put it up in the morning and it was gone when I went back after lunch. Someone stole my kid's 2 man plastic poor man's bass boat from our dock 3 years ago. I HATE people who steal from others. I'm a cop and would LOVE to catch some jerk(s) in the act of taking my stuff. Just once....just once. I'd love to hear the story behinds Deertracks apprehension. I bet it's a good one!

Ladder stands and trail cams are prime targets, I don't put out either of them.

sorry to hear about the theft. I'm with the rest, I hate thieves. With all of the trespassers that we have on our properties we have never had anything stolen. We have been fortunate. However, we have had things messed with. Someone cut our draw ropes once. We had hooks busted off so I had nothing to hang gear from on the hunt we found that. We had my buddy's blind pretty well anchored to come in early one morning and find it about 50 yards away from its original spot. They had pulled our stakes and let the wind take it. Luckily some brush and briars caught it.
So good luck in finding these fools. Be safe if you catch them in the act and then prosecute them.

You haven't bought a camera or ladderstand becuase of the chance it might get stolen....lol...how about your gun or bow or vehicle for that matter...Not understanding that logic..I'm not gonna let what might potentially happen have that much effect on my life... I have never had a treestand or camera stolen in 20years hunting..( probably just jinxed myself)...Today they have cameras that will e-mail photos to your phone or computer instantaneously when a picture is taken, so if someone does take the camera you would still have their picture... My hunting budget is very limited. Why take the chance of buying something expensive and leaving it in the woods for anyone to take. My uncle had a ladder stand stolen off of our place. I would rather spend my limited money on a new scope or rifled slug barrel. I would hope that the chances of my house getting robbed are less than having something stolen from the woods. That makes good logic to me, sorry if it doesn't to you. Also, what good is a picture if they are wearing a hunting mask? Or if you get a clear shot of their face, what if they are from out of state/local area. Is that picture going to replace my stuff?

I would have to agree with scrub-buster on that one.
But back to the original post....hopefully you are able to get ahold of another stand for the two of you by the start of the season.

If nothing else good comes of this then at least you'll have a prime opportunity to teach her a different hunting method such as still hunting, or using natural cover to hunt from. I've hunted from the ground most of my life, the cover is free, and nobody can steal it. As an added bonus natural cover doesn't spook deer since they see it there every day.

Well I can proudly say that I am married to a wonderful woman who loves her husband and daughter very much. My wife went and bought us another stand just like the one we had, so putting it up this weekend. You can bet I will be chaining that sucker to the tree this time.
Thanks for all your encouraging post.

...cleetus, my stand was chained up too and i still lost it, those thiefs will be back, try to think of other ways(maybe a log chain might help)(i believe they spot the stand , then come back with bolt cutters)....... to keep your stand there or try to make it hard on those thiefs to get it out, i hate to see you lose another stand!! ... it might be a little earily to put the stand out....anyway ...good luck ......turkey scout
