Went out for my first trek after some tree rats this morning. Spent the first 4 hours not seeing or hearing one, hell as far as that goes not finding one nut tree that had or is being cut.
Just as I had given up and started for the truck I got about 50 yards from the road and started hearing one cutting in a Pig nut. I sat under that tree for all of 30 minutes and took 5 in that time.
So, all and all not a bad day, got some much needed exercise (4 hour trek up and down the hills of owen putnam state forest) when I should have stayed next to the truck. lol
I do love them little grey's with some biscuits and gravy. Where I hunt deer on private land in Parke county about all you find are those tough reds.

I like the fox squirrels, about double the meat! Glad to see you all are getting out after those dudes. I am going to have to try the squirrel B&G. I have had them several different ways but never that way. Anything special that needs to be done or just fry in a skillet and use the grease to make the gravy?
Keep it up. I plan to hit the woods one more time I think so I can get a good mess of meat before goose season and deer.

Anything special that needs to be done or just fry in a skillet and use the grease to make the gravy? Thats the way I do it Duff. Make sure you stir up all the breaded crumbs from frying the squirrel from the bottom of the skillet. I also put the meat back in the gravy after complete and let it simmer a bit. And if you know anyone that makes good homemade biscuits. you are in for a real treat. I prefer rabbit this way but squirrel is really good too!!!!
