I was at my god-parents who's property I hunt and they told me they saw a BLACK deer grazing in the field the other night. I told them they were crazy but they swear it was all black and a deer. Have any of you ever heard of such a thing around here?

not around here, but it is known to happen. They are even more rare than albino deer. If you see it take it.

They can be dark, even black. It is called a melanistic deer. Here is one that was killed in Texas.

My brother and I saw one along 69 near Anderson several years ago. From a moving truck it apeared to be all black. the antlers looked bone white. I doubt it is the same deer.

All black deer do exist just like albinos. There was a large buck in IL hit by a car near where my brother and I hunt several years ago. People thought they hit a cow at first, but there are no cattle farms near by. It was quit the shock. Beautiful animal being all black.

I saw one in W. VA. one year that appeared to be black. It was with several other deer and the contrast was striking. That was the only black one that I have ever seen.
Considering that it was west virginny, I guess that it could have been a coal miner! parson

I've never seen one in the wild, but have seen some dark colored deer. The place that I am hunting in Illinois has an abundance of piebalds. Her is a large doe we captured on camera.

I have seen one melanistic doe in my life. It was back around 87-88 in Parke county. Had her at about ten yards, but was so awestruck by what I was seeing, I never drew an arrow.

We have one in our area. I've seen it once. It draws quite the conversation amongst the people here.
