Tristan made a great shot over the weekend to take his 5th deer of his short hunting career. We seen 3 early feeding on a clover plot, and 2 of them fed through fast and headed back to where we planted some beans back the end of June. So we decided to head back to the bean patch but scratched the idea of sitting in his ladder stand that over looks the South end of the beans, which was wrong for the wind anyway, and decided to set up at the other end of the bean field in the corn rows that I had planted just for the purpose of dropping a blind in to hunt with a South wind. It worked out great. We had 3 bucks and 2 (what I thought) were does work out of the timber. They all came out right by his ladder stand. The biggest buck fed a mere 15 yds of that stand. After 15-20 minutes or so, the two "does" slowly started feeding toward us. They got to 78 yds and almost acted like they were going to either go back the other way or step in the woods, so I told him to go ahead and pick his shot. He made a great slightly quartering away shot with his .45 Rossi muzzleloader. It ended up being a button buck, but it don't matter to me what it was. As far as I'm concerned, he can shoot anything he wants granted that it's legal... I couldn't be prouder and he's not gonna stop wearing his smile for a while. I also am attaching a pic of the 10 point that was in front of his ladder stand. He's dieing to get in that stand now come bow season, granted the wind allows him too.

Good shootin' Tristan! I'd say from the pics - great shot. Looks to me, that given the chance, that 10 point is history.

Nice job. How old is Tristan? What load and bullet weight did you use?

Thanks to everyone for the nice words. He's still stoked and is really anticipating getting back out there with his bow. This is his first year with a bow, so we'll see how it works out. He's been shooting all summer long and is doing really well with it out to 20 yds. Now if he can just contain his nerves to make the shot.... LOL
davepowers..... Tristan is 9 years old.... He is shooting 80 gr of 777 and a 200 gr T/C Shockwave.
