Pike County Illinois outfitter fined $15,000September 24, 2009 at 05:32 PM BY THE US. FISH AND WILDLIFE SERVICE Two Illinois men pled guilty today to allowing a non-resident customer to illegally kill a trophy white-tailed deer during a hunt at Golden Triangle Whitetails in Pike County Michael Pavlick, 54, of Orland Park, was fined $15,000, and David Van Milligen, 58, of Mundelein, was fined $5,000. The plea was accepted in U.S. Distinct Court, Central District of Illinois, by U.S. Magistrate Judge Byron Cudmore located in Springfield. Pavlick (pictured), the owner of Golden Triangle Whitetails, and Milligen, a guide at the business, each pled guilty to one misdemeanor violation of the Lacey Act. The Lacey Act is a federal law established to protect wildlife from commercial exploitation. In November 2006, a New Jersey man killed a 12-point trophy deer with a firearm on land operated by Golden Triangle Whitetails, in Pike County. The New Jersey man had an Illinois deer permit which allowed the killing of an anterless deer, not a buck. After shooting the deer, the deer was not immediately tagged as required by law. Pavlick and Van Milligen supplied the man with an Illinois deer permit issued to Van Milligen which was then placed on the 12-point deer. Van Milligen falsely reported to the Illinois Department of Natural Resources that he killed the deer. This deer was then taken to a taxidermist where it was mounted for display. Van Milligen signed the taxidermy records stating that the deer was killed lawfully by him. In February 2007, Pavlick arranged for the deer mount to be transported to another state for display at a sports and outdoor show.

Good, should revoke their hunting rights for life! I agree, Greed drives it all every season. I see this kind of thing where I hunt every year and it makes me sick. Urban deer zone and the OBR are abused around these parts every season and it all comes down to greed. I hear stories of guys checking deer in as urban tags and you know they don't have land that is designated as urban. Gee, sorry I'm off on a gripe session.

I don't think this is all about money and greed.
I do believe this happens even here in Indiana more often than we would like to believe. We have all heard the stories of people checking deer in under their infants names etc.
It's all about the antlers. I wonder who finally broke down and told the truth to the Ill. DNR.
