I killed a fawn in Tennessee last Monday. It is a deer I ordinarilly would not have shot, but it was a lot of firsts for me that I really wanted to accomplish. - First time I ever deer hunted (and turkey hunted) my grandpa's farm in Hawkins County, Tennessee. I have been coming here my whole life but have never hunted it (except for groundhogs) My grandpa is 88 years old.
- First time I ever shot a deer in September.
- Longest shot I ever made with my bow at a deer (42 yards).
- First time I ever killed a deer with my bow off the ground.
- First time I have ever shot at a turkey with a bow (missed), but my buddy missed twice! ;D
- First time I have seen 10 gobblers in one group. We also saw another group of 9...I have never seen so many turkeys as they have in East Tennessee, it is UNBELIEVABLE!
Anyway, it was down to the last hour of time I had to hunt before heading home and I saw this little deer come out and I decided I might never have the chance for these firsts again so I let fly...42 yards...the Rage 2 blade opened her up like crazy...I could actually see organs bulging our of the entry whole from 100 yards away. The recovery was less than 150 yards. The deer didn't weigh more than about 60 pounds but it should be some good eating! I don't have a chance to get out the first week of bowseason in Indiana this year, so I got one under my belt early in Tennessee.

A Deer is a Deer, but I personally would have let it walk and waited for a larger one.

This isn't directed at you Dan, but I think it's a shame that anyone should require guts to post ANY deer they harvest legally.

I'm sorry. I didn't mean to sound that way, reading back I see it - I'm a firm believer that all deer are trophies to be proud of. With the horn fasination I find this refreshing.

Like I said Dan, that wasn't directed at you. I'm sure there are a lot of guys on here who think he sinned!

Awesome. I bet it was cool to get a deer on gramps property! Also, there isn't nothing like zapping a deer from terra firma.
As far as it being a fawn goes, a dead deer is a dead deer. In nature, predators target the young and the infirm when they have the choice. The only thing that makes us any different is that we have plenty of time to be picky, or we are worried about what others may think.
As far as I'm concerned, you made a great shot.
