My 79 year old dad just got his first ever archery deer this evening. We just got it hauled in and in the cooler.
His doc gave him a slip and he got a crossbow last year. Hunted a bunch last year but never got anything. Tonight was his first outing of the year about 250 yards behind my house.
He whacked a small doe, clean kill, short trail and easy retrieval.
Pretty cool to start archery at 78 and kill your first at 79. Proves you're never to old to learn new tricks.

Never too old to start hunting. Good News. 79 Year old man needs a note from the Doctor to hunt with a crossbow? Maybe there should age set after which Doctor's note isn't required. Get your AARP card and crossbow permit at the same time.

Great story Steiny. Congrats to your dad. Something wrong with him having to get a permit though. Not wanting to turn this great success story into a crossbow debate, but you are correct. Not only for us "oldsters", but for everyone.
