LL HOLDER and voted no! i will continue to buy the $5 pin, but i am afraid that if it was to become mandatory for every deer you check in then next year when they need more cash it will become a mandatory 2 or even 3 dollars.

I know in Kenutcky when you pay your 10 bucks to apply for the elk draw that money goes toward paying the processing cost for the program. How about a $ fee to apply for special hunts. Or a $ fee to hunt a Management area. Then like some guys said it could be 1 $ this year and then two and so on. My favorite is a true wildlife plate for our cars and trucks. I know we have the blue ones that are but ugly. How about some with a deer, turkey, ducks, geese, or some nice picture on it like other states and charge an extra 10-15 per plate. I would do that and then your not making people do it. I dontated a deer Sunday and I had to pay a 20 fee to help cover the cost. The people are going to take it Anchor House in Jeffersonville. They glady gave me a receipt for my taxes. I bet the said thank you 20 times in the amount of 5 minutes I was there.

Guys and gals,
The posts that you are putting here are just as important, if not more so, that the numbers the poll is generating.
They are looking for answers to this problem. Every bit of input should be considered.
Carry on....

I voted no I also help out all the time for a good cause but I am tired of being told by the government who I should help.
There have been some good ideas on here but as the hunter I have already given by buying a tag and at a higher price now days. Maybe gas for some who don't have a place to hunt close the check in the equipment the lease for folks that do that remember all that stuff that had tax on it when you bought it.
We as hunters/ fisherman all ready pile a bunch of money into the wildlife for all to enjoy how about taxing/charging a fee to the bikers walkers bird watchers and so on that use the forest to help offset the cost.
IMHO the worst thing we could do would be getting the government involved more in our lives if they did this some how it would take four bucks to give one back.

I voted no. I wouldn't mind donating a dollar, but the deer licenses are already too high. Maybe if I didn't have to buy five a year it might be different. Besides the DNR in my opinion does absolutely nothing for us hunters despite high fees!!

How about this for a little out of the box thinking that will get almost every person in the state involved, and get the State itself more actively involved in deer reduction? Add a $5 per vehicle fee to the registration (I know they are high). This would get every driver involved. When a deer is donated have the donation centers hand the donor a State issued coupon for say $5 off a replacement deer tag. The State will lose a little revenue for the extra tags, but not lose all of it. If a person donates a deer, they make back what they had to pay on the car registrations. Those who do not hunt are simply paying for those who do to control the population.
I realize this may cause a stir with the non hunting, but it should generate plenty of funds to cover the program.

Form a group....say maybe a core group of the IDHA or some spin off if there are not enough members to make it work, could even be a group of indivbidual volunteers or employees of the DNR to seek out corporate donors to pay the costs of the program. The costs would mainly be administrative costs and finding end users of the venison. Then contact each county and set up a program to train trustees of the local jail to process the meat into burger. No need for steaks and chops, just scrap out the meat and grind it. The costs would be less than the $60 each now charged by the private processos and the drop of point would be in each county and open 24/7. Plus, the inmates would learn a trade if they every get out of jail....maybe?
Anyway, it's a concept that could be made to work if enough people wanted to make it work. You would think that auto insurance lobbies and farm bureaus would be more than happy to see it work out?

LL holder here and definitely no for all the reasons listed. It's not the DNR's place to do it and we LL holders were guaranteed no fee increases....for life. Maybe the government could force the butchers to do it for free ......what's the difference between that and forcing the hunters to pay for it.

I voted yes, but it should be voluntary donation..like donating 3 dollars to the Presidential Fund when you file your taxes...it's optional..like the non-game fund donation...etc...I Never donate to the Presidential Fund by the way...They get enough if my money..freakin crooks..

If the gov't forces anyone to do anything it won't be free and it won't be easy. Telling a mechanic they are going to work on state vehicles for FREE would never happen and neither will telling the butchers to do the same.

I think this should be expanded beyond the hunting community and all residents should have the ability/option to donate to the cause. I am sure there are some out there who do not hunt but would still be willing to donate some money to a cause like this.
