Most of us have heard about the Farmers and Hunters Feeding the Hungry program. It is a very worthwhile program that can help to:
1) Feed the hungry
2) Help control the deer populations
3) Cut back on farmer's crop damage
4) Reduce car/deer accidents
They have a Deer Processing Fund but it is running very short on money. The Sportsmens Benevolance Fund already exists but has no money from the legislature. The fund pays for the processing of deer donated by sportsmen. It has about $17,000 in it but needs MUCH more.
In order to raise more funds for this worthwhile project would you be willing to pay $1 more on each of your deer tags?
If you are a Lifetime License holder or landowner would you be willing to pay $1 for each method that you hunt towards this program?

I voted yes. $1 extra to benefit those that are in need of the food is the least I could do.

Yes, that is the The Sportsmens Benevolance Fund but it is not generating enough money to cover processing costs.... Neat little pins.. everyone needs one or two. Future collector's items...

Guys and gals,
We get anywhere from 400 to 500 people check in here daily.
I'd sure like to see a LOT of input and votes on this subject.
One thing I did not put on here is that if WE do not take care of deer population control the legislature will attempt to do it for us. That is not something that we, nor the IDNR, needs..

When most processors charge minimum of $60 for a basic cut it would take a lot of tags to make up the difference. I am not saying the processors are over charging as they have to eat too.
It would certainly be a step in the right direction. I could even see charging $10-15 per donated deer. That would stretch the dollars left.

I voted YES to paying the additional $1.00 BUT... being one of the hunters that is on a LIMITED INCOME myself, I have to more or less "watch where I spend my money.. I hate to see alot of increases on hunting fees and the rising price of gasoline.. I realize many others are also struggling with the economy being the way it is now and if it could help the person and family in need... I WOULD GLADLY PAY THAT INCREASE...

As a lifetime license holder I would gladly pay it but on the other hand for those that have to buy their license I think they are too much already. You should not have to buy more than one buck license when you can only get one.

I'm fortunate in that my processor (east of Boonville) will process a donated deer for $40. His normal fee is $80.. He does an excellent job..

Absolutely, I'd pay an extra buck or two to help people who really need help to eat.

I too am on a limited income. Which has been effected by the economic situation. I expect that over time it will improve. At least by donating and receiving some type of collectible that may be worth something in 30 or 40 years I kind of feel as though I am getting at least something for my money.

I hold a lifetime license and voted NO. On the other hand I have the 2008 and the 2009 Fund pin at 5 bucks a pop. Let's face facts, probably 90% of Indiana deer hunters want something for nothing.

license are to much I have limited income and the cost of buying two or more license is not right when lifetime holders get them all for free. They should have not sold lifetime license if they were not going to make them available forever

I carry a lifetime license but I would have no problem paying an extra dollar for my tag I mean come how many tags do people really buy in a year anyway so whats a few extra dollars to help the hungry.

This is an interesting question you've posed, Woody.
I voted 'no'. It's not that I wouldn't donate $1 to help the needy, but increasing the hunting license to do it would not be appropriate. DNR's job and purpose is not to feed the hungry, it is to manage the natural resources of the State of Indiana.
Another problem with this approach is I doubt the project wouldn't sustain itself for $1/license (but I'm not very familiar with the program or how it is set up). I wold expect the salary of the extra person or two that would be required to oversee the project would eat up all of the revenue generated from the increased license fee.
Too many people say "the government should do this, or the government should do that", but they don't stop and think about the resources and manpower required for the additional tasks or the funds required. The legislature sure doesn't.
I may view things from a different perspective, since I work across the street from DNR at IDEM.
