What everyone is missing is the fact that Lee hunts for a living. While you guys are out busting your tails at work, taking kids to practice and so on, he is planting plots, buying or leasing big chunks of land. Seriously, how many guys on here can say they take deer to the extreme like this guy does or for that mmatter have as much and as quality of property that he does. It is his job to grow and kill big bucks, and he has all the tools to get it done. To be honest, I would love to be that lucky but in all reality the first 130 or 140 that comes by is getting whacked and I will be just as proud.

It is about firearm pressure and age structure. Why do you think big lease clubs lock down over a 1000 acres in good areas here? Think about it a bit.

Maybe some truth to that but nobody on here hunts the same "type of property he does" that's a fact. You hunt around the Freedom area I take it? I hunt turkey in that area.

Throbak,
When I (metamorahunter) post a picture of a buck that I harvest on this site, do us both a favor and don't open the thread, we will both be disappointed.
If I ever get to the point where I am not ABSOLUTELY THRILLED to even SEE a 140+ buck, then I am going to quit hunting.
I have one buck over 140 inches to my credit and I am smart enough to know that I very well may never have another chance at a bigger one.
Hearing guys like Lakosky so much as SUGGEST that I should pass on a deer of that quality makes my stomach churn.
You do what you want. If you pass up a 140 inch deer and he walks by me, you will never see him again. I know, I know, that is what is "wrong with Indiana"...
People (like Lakosky) trying to take away other hunters' thrills by suggesting that a 140 inch deer needs to get bigger really gets under my skin.

There are a few here that I know hunt the same type of property, they aren't wasting time speaking up on here about it. I don't get too detailed because not everyone has the opportunity.

I just get really worked up when I listen to Lee Lakosky. He and I could not be more different when it comes to deer hunting. Everyone hunts for different reasons, I get that.
I just can't stand the thought of having to have a 3 or 4 year "history" with every deer on the place. Photos, videos, sheds, and all that. He has all his "target" bucks picked out and named.
Man, that would take half of the fun out of it for me. I love being surprised by bucks I have never seen before.
The only really big buck (well, I think he is big, someone in Iowa apparently wouldn't) I have ever killed, I met for the first time the morning I killed him. Now to me, THAT was a thrill.
I don't have the time to devote to all that other stuff. I also only hunt on 80 acres on one farm and about 120 acres on another. That is it. If I passed on 120 and 130 inch deer, I would only kill a buck about every 5 or 6 years, if that, and the idea of that just doesn't thrill me much.
I know, that is not an outlook that is going to kill me a bunch of "Booners", but I can live with that.

Seriously, I'm not going to argue about something I don't care much about but c'mon, who hunts on what Lee and his pretty little trophy wife do? The guy has access to thousands, not hundreds of prime acres in Iowa, intensly mangaged for whitetails. Hundreds of stands and trailcams and here it is...........No job but to kill big deer for the camera!!! You mean theres average smucks like me on here that have the same but I just don't bring it up? What are we doing right now? Arguing over a guy who is sorting through trail cam pics of giant deer. Hell thats why all the celebrities hunt with him. The thing is this, to me where I hunt 130 with bow and 140 with gun in trophy material. I don't care about what anyone including Lee is taking.

They seem to harvest some mature bucks year after year, But they also hunt some prime land, and promote land and deer Management also. If you had the resources as they do you could harvest better bucks also. I like the way they hunt they seem down to earth, Iowa's Deer season is structured alot different then ours, Iam telling you if i had the land and resources i could harvest Giant bucks also, Indiana is never going to be an Iowa, of Kansas, or Ohio, We have to pass up the 130 class deer, but that anit going to happen, unless you own private land and start a land and Deer Management Operation, And a ton of corprate support, I would like to know how much those companys through at them? I have land in Kentucky and my goal someday is to manage the land and heard, atleast then i can see what happens, It wount be near the land they have but i have about 80 acers and acess to a couple hunderd more all conected, right now it is producing cattle,It pays alot more.... But we can only Dream (SOMEDAY).

Boy, it sure would be nice to have threads posted about big bucks or celebrity hunters without the "green eyed" monster of jealousy showing up.
Many people here could do what Lee, Michael and others do if they were willing to take the risks, invest the time, effort, and money. However, I have yet to meet anyone who is willing to make that choice, take those risks, invest that much, or make the sacrifices that are necessary. For the moment at least, this is still a free country and we all can make that choice or not. Don't criticize those that choose differently.

I like Michael Waddel...I just don't care for Lakosky's style of hunting (with the personal history behind every deer). I sure like to look at the deer he kills though.

I dont care if you let every deer walk where I'm hunting, you'll never see a 170 plus buck come out of them woods. The genetics just are not there. Foods sources and water but no booners and Ive seen 5 maybe 6 mature bucks in the field at the same time for years and not that much hunting pressure. I've killed 2 bucks that were over 4 1/2 and they have a hard time making it to 140 plus. Ive seen 13 bucks in the field this year biggest one I would estimate at 150 plus. Genetics...is where its at. A good 2 year old should score around 130 if hes gonna be a booner I would think.

No jealousy here, never had the money to do what the "celebrity hunters do" or the time. I actually like being home with my kids, not traveling around hunting ranches. I have always been very happy taking the class of bucks we have around here.
