The great thing about deer hunting is the traditions that go along with it. Opening day of firearms is the richest. Ive hunted exclusively with a cousin close to twenty years, bow, firearm, muzzleloader. We used to hunt a farm in Perry county. We stayed in a farm house. The ladies that lived there milked cows every morning. House temperature at night was around 55 degrees. They would cook us huge meals always with gravy . Those were the best of times, though our success rates where low. But things change and some not so safe fellows shared the hunt so we moved on. These days we are alot more succesful ,and hunt an excellent farm in warrick county. We are also better off and stay at a nice hotel. Our tradition is pizza, maybe a swim in the pool, watch some football and hunt all day. Its amazing ,twenty years and opening day, hell everyday, is just as great. We will never outgrow this. Its our deer camp our tradition. Opening day, its like Christmas wit guns-Escanaba in da moonlight

Well for my son and I it is the time spent in car or at the local dinner for breakfast. Hunting mostly Public Land we don't have the good fortune to do a traditional deer camp. But the time spent together is still priceless. If we don't bag a deer than it off to the local Wal-Mart to bag some hunting items on sale.

I used to hunt my uncles place down in Madison, IN and we always would leave Thursday night and hunt Fridays and Saturdays. Best part was getting done with the evening hunt and going back to camp, sitting around a fire, eating dinner and talking about the days hunt. I miss that so much.

Hunted 25 years and never been to one.. bowhunters tend to be solitary creatures...Loners. I find it very hard to hunt with more than one guy..if that..I have OCD when it comes to deer hunting and most guys drive me nuts with little things, like spitting chew spit all around in the woods, wearing boots everywhere, not showering before the hunt, scent elimination, walking through feeding areas/agriculture feilds in the morning going in to stands.. etc..I have too many rules..lol.

This year we held our second annual "BellBucksnBeards Archery Camp." It's just my brother and his son and my 2 boys and me, and it's not much of a camp because it's here at my house. We've had a blast the last 2 years though and I hope it's something that carries on even after our kids are grown. We hunt mornings and evenings, shoot bows around noon, and always eat good in the evenings. Last year I fried up some hot wings in the garage and this year it was crappie. It's all about fun and this year we even killed a deer! ;D My oldest son killed a young doe Friday evening and we grilled about half of it up Saturday night. Chase, in the middle was the deer slayer. My brother brings his golf deer cart for the weekend. ;D

I have hunted for over 40 years but didn't get into deer hunting until about 7 years ago. I have never been part of a true deer camp. It sounds like a blast but just doesn't fit what my buddy and I do.
We meet in our traditional parking spots, trade well wishes for the day, and then make the hike to our stands. We stay in touch via radios to make sure we're both safe throughout the day. The best is when we celebrate success over a nice meal, and hopefully it's breakfast.

This is only my second year into hunting and I plan on using my new slug gun along as my bow. Joined up with two very nice guys last year and had high hopes of a good hunting relationship, but so far it's been nothing but conversation and empty promises. Not sure yet if they have a open spot in their deer camp for me or not. If not I'll just go alone as usual to our local area. Maybe by being the only one hunting the area I might have a better chance to putting one in the back of the truck. We'll see.

Deer Camp is a part of life down here in Georgia. Some of my best memories in the field have been in Deer Camp. Just this weekend me and my 12 year old son added to the memories. He killed a 4 pointer with my first Deer Rifle,a old Marlin 44 mag.lever action. It's not just about the kill.We have a great time everytime we go.Sitting by the fire telling old hunting stories to a wide eyed boy is priceless.

Have made many trips out west to Colorado, Wyoming, Idaho, etc. camped in the mountains, did all of our own cooking, walked right out from camp and hunted, etc. Awesome experience. Life is too short not to do this stuff. Frosty cold or snowy nights, a good camp fire, a snort or bourbon, fresh deer heart or backstraps, the glow of a wall tent at night with a lantern burning in it, a good down sleeping bag on a cot, nobody goes to town for a week or more, etc. Can't beat it !
