Well fellas getting ready to head to the woods. For those of you who read my last post two weeks ago you'd know that because I am knew to deer hunting I didn't know I could shoot a doe without a bonus anterless tag (which I guess you can in shotgun season). Because I didn't know this I didn't shoot a doe who was munching soybeans less than 20 yards from my stand. Today I hope for a repeat performance except this time I hope to be posting a picture of the doe I shot....Hope everyone has a good one today if you're out in the woods. Stay safe. And oh yeah...got me a harness.

Well fellas...as promised I am posting an update about today's hunt. Windy and rainy I was NOT optimistic. I made my way through the cow pasture to the deer stand overlooking a newly harvested soybean field. No sooner had I hooked into my harness and started to get comfy than I hear BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM BOOM! and look up to see two DUCK HUNTERS dropping birds out of the sky.
I wasn't mad at those fellas b/c they're enjoying the day too but man was I frustrated having driven an hour and ten minutes to my destination and gone to the trouble of getting set up. I wait in the stand about two hours but when the ducks kept coming, rain kept falling, wind kept blowing, and shotgun blasts kept booming I decided to call it a day.
I texted my buddy who met me back at the truck. He had a much different two hours than I....As soon as he strapped in his stand he sat down and turned around and noticed a small buck who had followed him in to his stand. He stood to take the shot at 20 yards, released, and missed low. (I suspect the wind pushed it low...it was dang windy out there). In any event, provided him and thrill so it was worth the trip after all.
Plan on getting stand in a tree here in Hamilton County this weekend. Hopefully that'll give me a chance to hunt here in the near future. Hope everyone else had a great day out there...would love to hear the stories to see if anyone else saw any deer. Thought they'd be bedded down given the weather....hopefully I'm wrong?
