The wife and I visited the big town of Wiley Ford, WV last weekend, and traveling home through Ohio we saw a tremendous number of road kills. Many of them had much larger bodies than I normally see in Indiana.
Any of y'all hunt over there? And, are the typically bigger than Indiana deer? parson

Parson, you may be right but that's hard to believe. in 2002 my heaviest buck was over 230 field dressed, 08' buck (pic on the halloween post) dressed 221 and the buck this year was 201. Those are big deer anywhere except maybe Canada. By the way this years buck at least tripled his weight by the time we got him the 1/4 mile back to the truck!

The biggest difference between Hoosier & Buckeye deer is mostly top end antler size, at least according to the data. I suppose the better mineral content of Ohio's soil could translate into larger skeletons as well as antlers...although that is just speculation on my part. Geograpically speaking, both state's deer are the largest subspecies, borealis-- although many of Indiana's reintroduced deer were virginianus specimens from the south. How that affects body size today...who knows. Both states produce big bodied deer, that's for sure.

Lol, I couldn't remember the formula for figuring that but that sounds about right. My god I'm getting old, I dont remember them being that hard when I was younger. Halfway back to the truck you almost start to regret releasing the arrow! I also learned another valuable lesson, when I bought my deer cart I didnt look for the size, I think I bought the scrub/young doe size cause he sure didnt fit. Also maybe wider tires would be nice because a cart is not much good when the tires are 3 or 4 inches deep in the field.

I've seen bucks that will rival any Ohio pig in Owen, Johnson, Marion (yes), and Morgan. It is where you are at in either state.
