You would think his "mentor" would know better. Instead of throwing the blame on the kid. Maybe he should have been told by someone that knew it was wrong. Perhaps the person videoing of course he didnt have orange on either

I agree John. Isn't that what the mentor is supposed to be there for, to teach them safe and legal hunting practices?

I understand the arguement of not wearin the orange after enterin the blind (for arguements sake) but he should of had on the ho when he went to retrieve the deer regardless if gun in hand or not, I would never try to retrieve a deer or walk into a blind with out HO on during firearms season nor muzzleloader at that fact. Idiots shoot at movement and I wouldnt want to get shot over a silly thing like not wearin HO ! Its a simple mistake on both their parts but I blame the mentor more than the child, although I do agree that if the youngster didnt have a apprentice license then he should of known better by takin the hunters ed class !!! I never had to take it becuz of my birth date but I took it anyway just so I could have the added info...

Regardless of what the rules are, or what piece of property we are hunting, would you not want to have orange on? I don't need a law to want to keep me and my kid safe, it's just common sense. Aside from turkey season, if I am with my kid in a blind I hang a ho hat or vest above or on the blind. This may not be "required by law" but beats taking a slug through the ribs. I did not see the video and not in any position to cast stones but I do know anytime afield during firearms with orange is insane. It has NO adverse affect on deer but it will save your life.

I don't even cut wood without HO on during hunting season. I know most people don't like it beacuse they don't want other hunters seeing them...I shake my head when I hear that cause that is the exact reason I wear it!!! It certainly doesn't spook the deer.

I always have orange hunting caps posted outside of my blind... just people can see where my blind is while the deer can not.
