Glad it was not any worse..
That can happen pretty easily, at least for me.
I've dropped two guns out of my stands over the years. Neither went BOOM as they both went barrel first and stuck in the ground.
The Remington 870 I removed the barrel and used a cut limb and a piece of my handkercheif to get the mud out.
The TC Hawken was a challenge until I thought of my screw in step. I used it like a wine bottle corkscrew and lifted the mud right out of the barrel. It came out real slick like. Running the ram rod down it made sure it was clear.

There were two incidents up here the opening weekend of muzzleloader season at the end of October- one a fatality. I think they determined that the fatality was caused when the gun fell out of the stand and discharged when it hit the ground. The other one, well, I'm not sure what was finally decided, but somehow a guy shot himself in the hand.

"No safety rules were violated. No regulations or rules were violated. Everybody was legal," Fazi said.
Umm ... how about keeping the safety on???

"No safety rules were violated. No regulations or rules were violated. Everybody was legal," Fazi said. Umm ... how about keeping the safety on??? Wonder if dropped from height if the safe will hold? Personally I tie a dumb cord to my guns. If I have a sling than I tie it to the back swivel. It never gets in the way.

I'm still confused and have been....if the trigger was pulled by an unknown object and the gun was falling wouldn't that mean that the gun HAD to be pointing down (in the direction of gravity) Which means that the only direction a shot could take would be towards the ground? OR to an angle downward? ? Maybe someone can come up with another scenario but I'm not coming up with anything.....

Some guns will go off with a good smack on the butt. Falling 15 feet would do it on a lot of guns.
