Further investigation revealed the two men illegally killed an additional six deer in Indiana during November. [/i]"They weren't killing the deer for the meat or for profit but just for the antlers," Kinne said. [/b]"It was just so they could take the antlers back to Florida and brag about the big deer they shot. The meat was going to waste."
Think how many big bucks we'd all see if this stuff didn't go on?

What is it with guys from Florida getting busted poaching?
Florida Men Busted by MDC in Maryville....
Maryville, Mo. -
Charges are pending in Atchison County against two Florida men following their arrest on deer poaching charges Tuesday afternoon by Protection Division agents from the Missouri Department of Conservation. The agents were assisted by officers from the Maryville Department of Public Safety.
Holt County Conservation Agent Jade Wright said Thursday the men each posted $1,169 bond and waived formal indictment, a procedure that allows them to return to their home state. A spokesperson for the Atchison County Sheriff's Department said the waiver amounts to a guilty plea.
Following the filing of formal charges next week, and depending on disposition of the case in Circuit Court, Wright said it is likely the bonds will be forfeited in lieu of fines. The arrests followed an MDC Operation Game Thief hotline call reporting suspicious hunting activity on private property along the Atchison/Holt county line near the intersection of Route Z and County Road 390.
Two agents responded to the scene and interviewed a witness who described the suspects as driving a silver-gray Chevrolet pickup truck with Florida tags. The agents found a large headless deer carcass in a nearby cornfield and the head of an eight-point buck along a nearby fencerow. A second witness reported seeing a black Dodge pickup in the area, also with Florida tags. In addition, two more illegally taken deer were recovered from a roadside ditch northeast of Stanberry.
During their investigation the agents notified area law enforcement agencies, including Maryville Public Safety, which discovered both trucks in the parking lot of the Comfort Inn on the south end of the Business 71 strip, where the suspects were taken into custody.
Pending charges include exceeding the buck deer limit, two counts of failure to check deer, wanton waste and abandonment of deer carcasses and illegal transportation and possession of deer parts. A .270-caliber rifle, a pocket knife and three deer were seized by conservation authorities.
MDC urges anyone who has information regarding wildlife violations to call the Operation Game Thief toll-free hotline at (800) 392-1111

hmm, maybe they were buddies? Could be coincidence or it could be a ring of sorts? Probably the former.
I hate poachers.

How years have they been doing this and didn;t get caught?...Wonder how many others are doing this type of stuff..?...They should make it a felony. Good question.. They could have been doing this ten years or better. Maybe they have a whole room full of "trophies" from Indiana and/or other states at home. The amount of fine THIS TIME could be very small considering. Next question - Who are they hunting on and did they know about it too? What I have heard about Switzerland county is that access is very, very difficult - IOW - you have to pay and pay dearly to hunt. These kind of poachers need the book thrown at them..

Could be a local connection, for sure..... It could also be that being known as a "Trophy County" (Or state) is a double-edge sword that attracts the wrong kind of visitors. More likely some combination of the two.

If there is a local connection, I bet that person owns very little or no land of their own. That is pretty common around here, I know of a couple different people that own only a few acres and invite 8-12 guys to hunt every year. Their "hunters" typically start out in the HNF for the first few days and then branch out to private property through the week once most local hunters are either finished or back at work.
Yes, we have more than enough idiots in our own state poaching deer and doing other stupid things. I don't know what has been going on but the over the last two years we have found two 4 pointers and two large does that were gutted and left by the side of the road with meat and antlers still fully intact.

This stuff happens to often in Switz. Co. It has happened twice on our property. The ones on a quad got away, but the ones in a truck didn't. Sometimes it is good to live on a dead end road. When they go in, they have to go back out. A quick call to the neighbors and the road gets blocked. Loosers.

Why is the fine only $500 per deer? Why isn't it $2,500 per deer or $5,000 per deer? ? It may or may not deter these criminals from poaching, but when they do get caught it would at least bring more $$$ to IDNR to help stop more scum bags from getting away with it! What ever happened to poachers losing their guns, trucks, atv's, ANYTHING they had on them at the time of the crime? No way they should have been able to drive away with their truck after only a few thousand in fines... Seems like a slap on the hand to me.

What do they do with the guns if they take them? Maybe the landowner where the deer was poached should get it. Kind of make up for the lost deer. Just a thought.
