I love Turkey hunting each spring .... listening to those thunder chickens really gets your heart racing.
Going west after Elk each fall is something I look forward to for months on end .... a lone bugle from across the valley on a crisp morning is one of the best sounds in the world.
Winter is spent going after ducks and geese ..... watching a mallard come to your set ... to your calls .... is one of the most satisfying feelings I have felt while hunting.
If I was forced to choose only one ..... without a doubt it would be whitetail deer. I have been hunting deer for most of my 35 years on this earth. I am just now beginning to figure out what it really takes to become a successful deer hunter. Every time you learn something new you are reminded of how much there is yet to learn.

You need to add waterfowl to your poll.

I've hunted since I would follow my dad through the head high cover in Jay County pheasant hunting in the very early 60's. I've hunted about every species of game animal and varmint there is here in this state. I enjoy bow hunting deer during early archery, and I enjoy hunting turkeys in the spring. I enjoy an occassional trip to Benton County for a pheasant hunt. There's no finer table fare than the wild game I'm blessed enough to bring home to my family. The one thing I enjoy hunting the most though, is a coyote. Hunting coyotes is like hunting a turkey with a nose. And a very good nose at that. Hunting coyotes for the past 10 years has made me a much better deer and turkey hunter. I've learned how to play the wind, and how to move quietly to my stands. It gets me out of the house during the deepest darkest days of winter, and has kept the winter blahhs away. I've lost nearly 50 pounds due in part to the exercise I get hunting coyotes, rather than setting on the couch watching football and NASCAR and eating summer sausage and crackers. I can coyote hunt every morning, and every evening, right outside my door. Coyote hunting has made me a better rifleman. I've come to enjoy fine tuning my rifles and the handloaded ammunition I use. I really think that coyote hunting has made me a much more complete outdoorsman.

I hunt deer the most due to the challenge, but rabbit & bird hunting is soooo much more fun & laid back listening to & watching the dogs work.

I guess I'm a deer hunter first. If you would have asked me that as a teen it would have been small game although I really enjoyed the pheasants - too bad IN isn't a better state for it.

Since about 1985 I would say deer hunting is my favorite game animal. Befor that I also hunted rabbets and squirrels. The reason I stopped hunting rabbets is kind of funny. I enjoyed hunting with beagles. Last beagle I had hunted fine during Oct but when the season came in and I got out the shot gun he disappeared. Called and called. Went back the next day without a gun and called him and here he came. Don't understand why he was so afraid of the gun because I got him as a pup. Anyway kept him until he died of kidney failure one summer. Didn't hunt rabbets again. As for squirrels, no one but me would eat them so I decided to quit them too.

I love to hunt most any game animal. I've hunted rabbits, squirrels, pheasant, quail, ducks, geese, mule deer, etc. But without a doubt, whitetail deer are my all time favorite and I don't think that will ever change. I love to just watch deer all year long. I will pack up the family during the off season and head out to the property to deer watch quite often. If I had to pick a second, it would probably be pheasant & quail. Love to watch a good bird dog workin' a field.

I am a whitetail guy. I love being able to pattern their movements and trying to predict what they are going to do. Also, I think they are down right beautiful creatures (and tasty!). While I was stationed at Ft Lewis I had the chance to hunt blacktails. Whew, if you want a challenge try those little buggers. they are "ghosts of the deep, thick woods" for sure. Finally, I was looking forward to getting a shot at some Elk when we moved to Colorado this year but Uncle Sam had other plans. I may have to adjust my vote next year after Elk season ; P
