I just re-read the debate going on about extending Muzzleloader season. I noted that some seem to think their season is over when muzzleloader season goes out. I don't get it.
I only recall two people mentioning that those who want to hunt can always get a bow. Not only that, but now crossbows are legal for those who might not want to use, or be able to use, a conventional string gun.
So, maybe I'm stupid, but why not keep hunting with a bow when Muzzie season goes out? Not that you are a better hunter or something because you bowhunt... it's just that the option is there, so why not use it?

I think I am probably done. Been hunting since urban started. I had to drag my son out the last few times. He is really into waterfowl and I told him when muzzleloader is over we could concentrate on waterfowl and he doesn't bow hunt yet. Besides that we have 5 deer between us this year. I don't think I missed going at least once everyweekend from Sept 15th through the end of muzzleloader along with a weeks vacation. It's kind of relief it's over so we don't have to argue between deer and waterfowl hunting.

I agree Sasquatch. It's not completely over if you have a bow/crossbow. I have hunted Late Archery before. This year I just don't have/need to. I have hunted since October 1, more hours in the field than ever for me. The freezer is full from my three kills. I thought about hunting a couple of times in LA but my wife is ready for me to be done. Several projects that have been delayed while I was hunting. So now it's her time.

So, maybe I'm stupid, but why not keep hunting with a bow when Muzzie season goes out? I went yesterday evening with the compound and plan to go as much as possible until the REAL last day.

I am all for bowhunting ! I bow hunt from October 1st thru Gun usually and m/l seasons right out to the ending day ! This year I did buy a guntag and managed to kill a nice 9 point, but I am a bowhunter at heart, I would rather climb in a stand or behind a stump with a bow than a gun or muzzleloader any day of the year. Not that I dont enjoy both firearms and m/l seasons I have a slug gun and an inline m/l just prefer the old bow ! Less tags I have to buy thru the yr also lol

My opinion is some of the reason some would like it extended is because they like to hunt with snow on the ground. And a lot of people get some extra time off of work during Christmas and the New Year so they would have more time to hunt. Some believe that it's to cold to bow hunt because your wearing to many cloths to pull the bow back. My thought is not to extend it but move it back a week or two. Give the deer three weeks to settle down before bringing Muzzy back in. Then let it run the three weekends that it does. Give us more of a chance to hunt in the snow. Which is what I like to do. But I think we have enough gun time hunting. I just love hunting in snow and that's basically the only reason I want it moved. That and the deer hunker down so much after gun season they don't seem to move till the second week of muzzy season. But I have no complaints about how long it is.. BB

I think moving the muzzie season back three weeks would be great. +2 I like that idea too. Some won't... because they'd rather hunt BEFORE the holiday. And would run into family issues with the holidays... Can't please everyone. I like to be able to hunt in the snow a little once in a while too. Jabba

I think moving the muzzie season back three weeks would be great. +3 That would work for me as well, at least then i would be able to get the kiddos into the woods while we are both free.

if would be good for youth because it ends the same weekend we get of and most youth dont want to hunt with a bow just because they have had less experience. they could make it youth till the end of archery that would be good. also they have excuses to take of during the holidays
