This poor old gal was injured in October of 2008. I haven't seen her at all and figured she had died of infection or coyote infestation!!! Never once did I catch her on a trail camera or see her in the field while hunting or scouting. Just goes to show how tough deer are. I'm sure this leg is pretty much useless the way she carries it. Got a pic of her backing a fawn down, so nobody bosses her around, and I think she has had fawns because a young deer travels with her. Amazing!!!!!

They are amazingly resilient beasts.

We had a 3 legged doe near our camp that had amnesty for three years. We watched her rear 3 sets of twins. Then... never knew what happened to her after that.

Will to survive is instinctive to all prey animals, weakness cannot be shown and will not be tolerated by fellow beast...

It's quite incredible what nature can handle on its own.

She is not in misery at all she does not even know she is actualy hurt or hindered . To her she just is what she has always been a doe deer .And injuries like this are very very common ain the wild and the animal can live for a decade or more with this type injury .

If this doe shows any weakness to the other deer in the herd she will be shunned. They will keep her away from the good sources of food and water. If she goes down they are likely to use their hooves to pummel her into the dirt. Only the strong survive, natures way, the weak shall perish so the strong may continue the genetics.

Easy boys!!!!! No sense arguing over a free ranging deer that none of us have any control over. If the good Lord wants her to live, she will. I thought she was dead already, as I didn't see her at all last season. She must be staying pretty close though, and if I see her next season I will try and put her down. I think she has a fawn with her, and I have pics of her acting aggressive toward other deer, so I think she is making it just fine.

I've seen more deer than I can count on both hands that were in as bad, if not worse shape. Numerous three legged deer that seemed to do quite well. An injury that would make us humans just lay down and die on the spot is pretty well shrugged off by deer. Tough critters.
