Which would be most exciting for you?

Hard to say as I think how the actual hunt itself plays out would be the determining factor. Don't get me wrong, I love big bucks and hopefully one day I will kill a 160+ class but I could see a dink 120 ranking higher on the fun scale than a 170 based on how or what I had to do to collect them.

two votes for doesn't matter I hunt deer, a buck would have to be 180 plus or I don't care if I shoot one or not, but for sure my hunt is not all about the BUCK I hunt for does , a buck is a bonus deer for me .but for sure does not make my hunt a success or a failure if I don't get one

I understand all the "doesn't matter sentiment". I love doe's as much as the next guy and kill my share every year because that's what we eat. I'm just curious who would pick what, archery for me.

170 is a 170. Thats what I want, don't matter the weapon. I love to bowhunt but a big deer is a big deer no matter the weapon. I have said for years the only reason I don't hunt with a High Powered Rifle is because they aren't legal. I'll take every advantage I can get to try and kill a big buck.

You forgot, "doesn't matter." I would put myself on this list also, old enough to remember when just seeing a "deer" around here was an event that got a mention in the local newspaper. Just being able to hunt with a firearm in a free country is 95% of the hunt for me. Sorry 'bout that.

Ok maybe I need to re-phrase my poll: To the hunters who hunt for big bucks, which would you rather harvest? I don't judge my season on the size of buck I kill. I start in Sept. filling my freezer with doe's and watching my son kill "whatever walks past". But come late October and November you can bet I'm looking for rack and if a 160' in bow range doesn't make your ticker run faster c'mon lets be honest.

I have a 170" buck on the wall that I hunted for three years. Had him in bow range twice. Too dark once and too thick the second time. When he came through at 100 yards and I smoked him with my muzzleloader, do you really think it was any less exciting than the first two close encounters or the other 5 that didn't work out?

Hunting the same deer for 3 years and then killing him would be exciting regardless of weapon! To me archery kills are more exciting but to each his own, thats why I posted the poll.

I'll probably have neither choice as the freezer is my primary concern.

I'd have to say yes!...put a 170 inch deer at 15 yards with a bow or put the same deer @ 100 yds. with a muzzleloader...my heart would be pounding twice as hard at 15yards with a bow...a MUCH more intense experience...Guaranteed!... I don't get that excited gun hunting deer too much....a little,.. but not nearly what I get from up close and personal encounters.....

Ok, I guess after some of your responses I have to ask this because I'm confused. Am I mistaken or can you be both a trophy and a meat hunter? I understand the fill the freezer answer but c'mon I had the freezer full before the rut even kicked in, thats what does are for. I guess I don't understand some of the sentiment that comes off as I hunt for meat only, does that mean once your freezers full you just quit? I realize not everyone is interested in a trophy buck but I would bet a 160 or 170 would make most of you "doesn't matter" guys forget all about that freezer for a minute. We butcher all our own deer and eat venison almost exclusively all year but still try and kill something decent during the rut, so I know you can do both. I know most of you including myself don't lay in bed the night before the opener and dream of a 115lb doe slipping past at opening light...lol

I believe you can be both, I feel like I am in that same mode as you vectrix...more so the last few years. You may recall that I just recently bought a bow so I can get more time in the field to hopefully put more venison in the freezer and maybe have that 160" + experience during the crazy time of Oct / Nov.

I have never been a trophy hunter but simply a deer hunter, I enjoy the hunt no matter the weapon, but I prefer to archery hunt on the ground period, I think its the most exciting way to hunt a whitetail, but for the question I am still stickin with the archery hunt. I think some of u guys are givin vectrix a hard time, that are a 100 different answers that could be listed to choose from, the question was a simple 2 answer question give the guy a break lmao. Most times b4 my hunt I think to myself I hope I see a deer in the mornin and would love a chance to get a shot at one, but again the question was between a harvest with a gun or bow. With all that said I have never actually passed a up on a buck in hopes of seein a bigger one either lol, I like to eat deer meat too much to be concerned with size, and hunting strictly on public ground on mostly only with the ability to hunt on weekends I dont have the privledge to hunt a particular buck, maybe thats the reason I will take a buck if givin the chance. And like I said I truly just love to be in the woods eye level with the deer and with my bow. There is nothin more relaxin, calmin, and at the same time adrenaline pumpin to have a deer no matter doe or buck, gun or bow to me ! BUT to each their own IMO.

I forgot to mention that if givin the chance at either one, I think it would be more adrenaline pumping and exciting to me to have a 160" walk in and me be to take it with a bow. Prolly mainly becuz with my experience I have to take a lil longer to wait on that buck to get close enough to sling an arrow at it, plus it just feels different to me lookin down the shaft of an arrow than aimin thru a scope. SO there is my 2 cents on the matter lmao
