I finally got back my 2005 buck from FRED LUCAS. When I first killed this buck I called Fred and he said he didn't take new customers. Well after 15 minutes of talking with him and letting him know money and time weren't important he agreed to mount him for me. He told me not to bug him and he would be done in 2-3 years. Well 4 years and 3 months later he is done. All I can say is he was definitely worth the wait. UNBELEIVABLE! I have heard FRED LUCAS described as a muesem mounter. His deer is definitely Muesem quality. He said this deer was either the 2nd or 3rd biggest bodied deer he had ever mounted. I had hunted this deer for 3 years before taking him. I have 3 years worth of pictures of him and 5 of his sheds. One of these days I will have his sheds mounted just like him only turned the opposite way. With a quality mouint like this its no wonder FRED LUCAS has mounted aniimals for some huge names in the hunting world, like Gene and Barry Wensel just to name a few. THANKS FRED

What an honor to have him do the mount. A friend of mine had a world class muley done by him that took about the same amount of time. Awesome.

That is one beautiful mount Chris! That is also one heck of a buck! There's nothing like finding and hunting one particular buck. I would like to see that mount in person sometime. You certainly have a very nice trophy room!

Good to see Fred is still doing his world class work. Dad & I have mounts from him dating back to 1977 but have not been in contact with him since early 80's. Is he still in Morgantown area?
How old do you reckon Fred is?

Giant buck that had both mainbeams turn down. Was a suspected world record typical. Killed in Margantown, well guess who the taxidermist was? The hunter was ridiculed so much about this deer that he and the deer have gone underground. Can't say that I blame him. Jealousy is something else.

Someone declared it a "world record" and it blew all over the net. Just like a "new world record" does every year. The poor kid was harassed and harassed by people, reporters, outdoor writers, an organization that wanted to use it to conduct a measuring seminar, etc, etc. The word I got he was tired of it and told everyone he traded it for a truck and an ATV. That got them off his back.. A whopper of a buck, but no "world record"...

You heard it right Woody. The 4wheeler and truck story were made up because the hunter was ed off because of all of the jealousy surrounding this deer. I am an official deer scorer and have my hands all over this buck and for some strange reason have NO IDEA what it scores. ;)HA HA. ;D I doubt this deer will ever be seen by anyone other than friends and family of the hunter. GOOD FOR HIM.

And don't forget the guy from "Camby" that started the rumor on the net. That the guy in the pic had already shot and checked in a buck that year......so that started the "is it Legit" factor!!!!!!

I have a Fred Lucas Deer as well I am from the Purdue University area. Fred was kind of a surley fella on the phone and I was a little exhausted waiting for my deer that took just shy of 5 years to complete. When he finally called to tell me it was done I was happy to drive down and get it. His directions were perfect to get to his house but I missed it two different times. I walked into his shop and it was alot like an old episode of Dr. Who the inside of his place was full of fantastic mounts and dioramas, come to find out he was the most pleasent little guy you could meet. two years ago I had Butch stoops do a mount for me and I asked Butch if it was going to take 5 years and told him my last mount was from a little old guy named Fred he asked his last name and proceeded to tell me that he was Freds apprentice for a time when he started taxidermy. It is a small world!!!

Fred is a one of a kind guy. Back in the 80's I had a friend call Fred and ask him to do a mount. He said Fred why are you twice as much as all the other taxidermists? Freds Reply-"I'm twice as good." Fred looks as though he just stepped out of an LL BEAN catalog. A taxidermist buddy of mine told me that if Fred entered a taxidermy show everyone was shooting for 2nd. I feel truly honored that he took on this deer for me. I would gladly let anyone who wants too stop by and see the FRED LUCAS Difference. Its unbeleivable. Was it a long wait? YES. Would I do it again? ABSOLUTELY!
