Questions for Woodmaster, Woody, Timex and some of you guys that hunt IL every year.
I checked out a lease yesterday, looks good, and I think I am going to go for it. I would want to buy archery, shotgun and muzzy licenses, so I can run over there whenever I want to hunt next fall. Question ...... Is there any chance I wouldn't draw a tag? Have hunted in IL about 8-10 times previously, but that was always with an outfitter. Always drew the tags we applied for every time.
Thanks

You'll get archery every year. They have uped the limit and always have them left over now. Gun and ML are also limited but most counties do not sell out on the first or second go around. I believe most of the counties on the east side do not sell out until the left over draw, so yes you should be able to get all of them you want. You can buy all three, but only use two of them.

"You can buy all three, but only use two of them."
What do you mean by this?

Two buck limit......if you have 3 tags, one can't be used except during the clean up season for a doe in late Jan.
If you get both a gun tag ($300) and a ML tag ($250) you can hunt 10 days with a firearm and kill two bucks. You can't archery hunt during the first two gun seasons. Lots of quirks over there but overall it's a good experience.

"You can buy all three, but only use two of them." What do you mean by this? They will ONLY let you kill two bucks.. One with archery equipment and one with a firearm (MZ or Slug gun) OR..One with a MZ and one with a slug gun Doe permits can be had for $15..

Apply for firearms the second lotto when non- residents are let in, and you should be good, ML is tough to get drawed for in the county I hunt..They offer a certain ammount of tags for each county, residents get first crack at them, then resident and non-residents, but my experience is ML are gone in the first lotto drawing in the county I hunt..Each county is different.

Do you have to physically check harvested deer in at a check station?

Good deal, wish Indiana would go that route. Anxious to do this Illinois deal. With the economy pretty crummy, that's going to be my out of state hunting this year. Pretty handy, only 3.5 hours away, can do long weekends.
Plan on taking a few buddies. I popped for the lease, they can spring for the motel and chow. A good deal for all.
