I've noticed that a lot of people on this forum don't seem to like to get involved. For instance, one poll had 350+ hits and only 46 votes, and I do realize that alot of these are multiple hits from the same person. If people are taking the time to make a poll why aren't people taking the time to respond to them? Some of these polls are , or could be, very informative. Just wondering.

oops I meant for this to be in "deer hunting". Sorry! Ah, you can lead a horse to water.... Not sure why more peopel don't respond more. Some might think "Oh, so and so said what I would have said" and don't post their own thoughts. Some folks are just naturally shy. I've found that EVERYONE has something to bing to the conversation. We all come from different backgrounds and thus have different experiences to share. So to me it is the "more the merrier".. I'll move thisi to deer hunting for you.. "

I think that some folks are intimidated by the "atomsphere" & the number of veteran hunters on some sites & just do not feel comfortable responding with their input. I sure wish that hunting sites like this one had been available when I started hunting years ago, as my learning curve would have been much shorter. But hey! Without all of our early hunting screw-up's we would not have stories to tell & things to laugh about now in camp.

Guys I would agree that people are a little shy when it comes to voicing opinions. I would admit that I'm probably one of those individuals who could speak up and strike up a conversation. Look for me to be on this post a lot more.

I was a ghost for a long time on another Indiana site for the simple reason I was jumped on the very first post I placed on yet another one !! I asked a simple question trying to get involved and was made to feel like something I'm not. I haven't seen much of that here and therefor I have posted more often. I'm very involved on another site from another state even though I live in Indiana for the simple fact there is NONE of what my first experience was like on that other indiana site. I've made friends on the other site to the point of going on a Turkey hunt this past spring with a guy from there and he is due here this Friday to bowhunt with me for the next week.

hunter7X,
I know what you mean.
Since this site started about 3 months ago I have tried my best to keep it level keeled and "G" rated.
We've had a few bumps, but all in all it has been fairly smooth. My vision is that this site is where people can come daily and ENJOY their vist.
We can debate all we want , but no one should be personally attacked for their views.
I also know what you mean about making friends on the net. I made fast friends with a crossbow hunter in Ontario on the Excalibur forum. We never met face to face, but we shared a lot.
We talked family, hunting , deer, crossbowing and just about anything else imaginable. He was tragically killed earlier this year and when i heard about it I sat at my PC and the tears flowed like I was a child..
I never met the man, but we were VERY GOOD friends..
Good boards become second families...

I have seen people made fun of for spelling, grammer and other things. I also think when someone reads or writes something it comes across differently to everyone. Without being able to type with tones, body language, facial expressions its hard to tell exactly if the other person is mad, making a statement or just having some fun.. No one wants to be wrong and have it pointed out to everyone. I choose not to enter most threads. This seems to be a good site so far. I may jump in from time to time.

I agree with the spelling and grammer. Those were never my strong points and just typing on a dang hunting forum I never felt necessary to spell check what I was putting out there. If I was getting paid for it, you bet I would do my best but for a bunch of good old boys who cares. Yet it never fails, usually during a debate, there are always people bringing up the mis-spellings or poor grammer. I find it pretty funny, but some do get upset or intimidated by it.

I think a lot of it has to do with who started the poll, and what the topic is. A couple of the "infamous pot stirrers" like to harp on the same subject over and over, with different wording. I personally don't even read those let alone respond. Maby some of the regulars from here who've been around the previous sites do the same. This time of year, i'm more interested in reading stories from the field and looking at pictures etc, not reading polls.
