Well.......if 15 years ago there was say 200,000 deer total in the state and now there is 3 times that number then common sense would say that there are appox. 3 times the overall number of bucks in the state now as compared to then.
And to expand on that, if the number of hunters has stayed relatively close to the same in the past 10 years, and the harvest has been fairly constant in that same period, then common sense would say that we have more carry over of bucks in that period, some because of the natrual increase in the herd numbers and some becaause of the OBR......common sense says that the later of those two can't be proved.
Common sense also says that IF the herd numbers have doubled or tripled since the rule was enacted, then maybe it's time to increase the limit on bucks and on does, because it's really tough to control a deer herd once it reaches a certain number of animals......especially when all other varibles are constant.
Also, it make perfect sense that if Illinois can allow two bucks and remain the overall best state in producing big bucks, then other states can as well. Common or otherwise.

Seriousily you think the deer herd has increased 3x's in the last 15 year's? ? Wow. And number of deer hunter's has stayed relatively the same? ? WOW .We are not from same state i don't think. You must work for DNR. On Illinois do you realize how may day's the Illinois gun season is ? Indiana has a very very liberal gun season. Illinois does not.

Illinois does not. It sure has .I am not sure where you are from or hunt at but you need to get way out of your hunting area in the winter after season in a snow and see what is out there . We only kill 50- 55 thousand bucks a year and that number has not changed in 12 years for the most part we have only truely killed about 10.000 more antlerless since then up to today!

For record on Illinois 2010 firearm's season Nov 19-21st first season and 2nd Dec 2-5. You really want to compare Illinois to Indiana. 7 day's Illinois to almost 3 weeks for Indiana. You really beleive Indiana's deer herd has doubled or tripled in last 15 year's. What fence do you hunt behind? ??Seriousily?

Hunted Ripley, Dearrborn Switerland counties 32 year's. Supposed to be some of the most heavely populated deer counties. See less deer today. No comparison. Just cause DNR say's so don't make it so?

The herd has grown a whole bunch well north of you guys on the river . I mean north of brown county clear up to the Mi. line over the last 10 years I do not hunt behind any fence at all . The herd has trippled or quadrupled up north of Indy in about half the counties up here .If you want a treat come up north this winter take a lunch and drive the 150 miles to say Cass .Pulaski,Fulton ,Carrol, Marshal and them upper central counties, Get up here oway off the main roads in the broken farm country and you will see up too 100 deer in one feild with 20 - 50s being common and they are allover the place like that or slide to the 10 or so upper north east counties north of Ft Wayne . It has changed a whole bunch accorss this state over the last 10 to 15 years . And it is very evident in the much more open farm land of the northen half of the state that it would be in highly forsted area. Down south I would think.

20 year's ago i can relate to that, but 4,6 and now 8 antlerless bonus permit's and brother in seven year's here in Switerland county. I can say i've went from seeing 15 or 20 deer per hunt to some day's may not see a deer!!!! Hey some of that's good do see more buck's and quality has gotten better. Manage our farm extensively. But there has to be a happy medium somewhere. Hav'nt hunted up north but do know some guy's from Muncie area that come down here every year. Say we have more and bigger dear? ? Grass always greener on other side of fence! Think whatever DNR does we'll probably get our buck's. Hunt hard, long and smart.
