Buster: First off, I have a personal protection permit (dunno if it makes a difference or not).
I'm on the ATV getting ready to load my climbing stand on it, to take it out of the woods and notice a buck get up and begin walking away @ 40 yds, right front leg broke - he can't put weight on it. My Muzzleloader is at the truck, about 3/4 mile away.
Buck tag is not filled. I'm hunting on private property, with written permission.
Would it have been legal to get the muzzleloader from the truck and drive to within 3 to 400 yds from where I last saw the deer, and try to stalk it? If so, how should the ML be transported on the ATV? ML would have been loaded, but primer removed (in-line).
Moot point anyway because the buck walked onto a neighbor's property and I haven't asked for permission to hunt on it. But, I'm still curious just in case it happens again.

Firearms (incl. ML's) must be unloaded and cased, or made inoperable by use of a trigger lock or locking device that prevents the gun from being fired and cased. Taking the primer out of the ML is fine as long as you case it also. A soft sided gun case would suffice. A personal protection permit only applies to handguns.
