Indiana's North Coast Charter Association Spring Fever Show
It's late February in northwest Indiana and that means two things to area fishermen. The Northwest Indiana Steelheaders ( www.nwisteelheaders.org ) will be hosting their annual Spring Fever Outdoor Show on February 26 and 27 and it won't be long until the Indiana shores of Lake Michigan come alive with millions of coho salmon plus more than a few kings, browns and steelhead crashing the party. The Spring Fever Show is billed as the "biggest little show in the tri-state area."
Several of the professional captains of Indiana's North Coast Charter Association ( www.charterfish.org ) will be in attendance with their appointment books open so you can pick the prime dates for your friends or family to schedule a fun-filled day on Lake Michigan. Many of the captains are guaranteeing rates for bookings made at the show, regardless of what the gas prices do the rest of the season. As happened when gas prices spiked 2 years ago, many were forced to price fuel surcharges to partially recoup their expenses.
Capt. Mike Schoonveld, Brother Nature Charters and executive secretary of the Charter Association will be conducting an hour long seminar at 3PM on Saturday covering the different types of lines he uses on the Brother Nature during the course of a typical season. He'll cover monofilament, fluorocarbon, braid, wire, lead core, copper and other types of lines. Capt. Mike guarantees you'll learn a trick or two you can put to use on your own boat.
The show will be held at the Porter County Fairground Expo Center, just off SR 49 south of U.S. 30 in Valparaiso, Indiana. Show times are 9 AM to 6 PM on Saturday and 9 AM to 4 PM on Sunday.
